Do you have any allergy? If not, it might be an infection. I would suggest to talk to a pharmacist, she or he would recommend something over the counter, then if it persists you might need an antibiotic prescription.
Good luck.
Looking for recommendation for over the counter treatment for itching and burning eyes. They have been bothering me all week. I don't wear contacts. Today one eye was a little red, probably from me rubbing them like crazy.
Thanks in advance.

talk to the pharmacist. I used to use prescription Patanol. 2 weeks ago, I asked the pharmacist what could be used....& they recommended one of the OTC drops. Cleared up in 2 days.....
EDIT: switch out all of your eye makeup....since it's probably contaminated if you've been battling this all week.
naphcon A eye drops. I think these have an antihistimine in them and help if your eyes are itching from allergies. Don't touch your eyes. Otherwise the eye can become infected and you can end up with pinkeye, yuck. Try using a cold compress instead of rubbing and use a separate one for each eye to avoid contamination in the case of infection.
It could be allergies, or it could be an infection...... unless you know for sure, you may want to see a doctor about it.
vizine A works good but the prescription allergy eye drops work GREAT!
I struggle with this constantly! I finally found out that I was allergic to eye makeup all of the sudden. So here is what I did for relief:
Every morning and evening I took Cammomile tea bags, let them steep in hot water then put them on my eyes for about 10 minutes. Of course, make sure they are not too hot so you don't burn yourself.
I stayed away from any products that claim to get the red out. These will actually aggravate your eyes more and are not healthy. Your eyes are red so they can get more oxygen which they need to heal.
I was sure to remove my eye makeup before going to bed.
I changed my eye makeup to all natural so there is nothing in my makeup to aggravate the issue. I can give you a contact for this if you need it.
I have to keep any moisturizers away from my lashes, it seemed to aggravate it also.
I think that is it. I will still get a flare up once and a while but I usually find that I got too close to my eye with something that bothers them.
Good luck!
Similasan-but first start with hot compresses-use a clean wash cloth each time
I have delicate eyes and suffer from blepharitis. I recommend taking your eye makeup off IMMEDIATELY after getting home, and washing your eyes with baby shampoo and using warm compresses on your eyes if necessary. Chamomile has healing properties so you can try soaking compresses in warm chamomile too. I used to sleep in eye makeup and got many eye infections, so the doctor told me to do all the above. I was also told to get hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, waterproof mascara that won't flake as easily because normal mascara can flake off and if one of those flakes gets inside your eyes, it can cause discomfort, redness, irritation, and even an infection. Don't rub your eyes, it's the worst thing you can do! Get plenty of rest, which will help some of the redness disappear, and make sure to blink often, to allow oxygen through. If you suffer from dry eyes, get some lubricant artificial tears, or a saline solution to flush out your eyes. Check to see if you have eyelashes or makeup inside your eye. Check your eyelids for styes, which could be rubbing against your cornea and causing redness. If these things don't help, you may want to see a doctor, as it could be allergies or an infection.
By the way, my eye doctor said redness relieving eye drops like Visine or Clear Eyes are like putting a band aid on a big wound, it will not help in the long run or stop the problem and if anything, can aggravate and mask the issue.
You could have dry eyes. .Try Refresh Plus eye drops - they come in single-use vials and you can get them over the counter. (each "single use" vial has about 10 drops of saline).
