Sadly, I just went through something similar, but with my health... I actually had to switch hospitals before anyone would look at my history & look into it. Which after they did - I stopped having mini-strokes & am now doing much better.
Over four years ago my keyboard here died. Since we have spare equipment from machines that died I got a new keyboard and mouse. For over four years when I type really fast the cursor (do we still call it that?) bounced all over my spreadsheets. We figured it was the keyboard so changed it out. The computer and changed it out. Even the flipping server has since been replaced! Still does it.
So this morning I noticed a glob of something on the wheel of my mouse so I took a paper clip and got it out. Kind of cleaned up the rest of the stuff around the wheel.
IT DOESN'T SKIP AROUND ANYMORE!!!!
I am very happy because now I can type without looking up every now and then to make sure we are on the same page but the mouse!!?? Why didn't we change the mouse??
So anyone else have everything repaired but the actual problem?
I get the feeling anyone with a car is going to respond, duh!
Jess since they lost their balls I didn't know there was anything to clean on them! :p

Thank you for the laugh...and I don't mean the posts but your What Happened....that gave me a good chuckle!! :p
Sounds like what happens when the TV stops working, we call a repairman, and he tells us that it's unplugged.
That'll be $75 please.
Makes ya just wanna cuss!

Could have been worse - could have been the power strip.
HA! Sorry to laugh. So funny though. I mean it was the $5-easy-to-replace-or-clean-item the whole time?
added: "They lost their balls. Hilarious." Yes I know what you're saying though.
Me! My computer was running s......l.......o......w so I updated everything - browser, drivers, even Adobe, did regular disk clean ups, got new virus protection, and still it would run slow. After spending about $500 on new software, mouse and installed everything I could think of, I took it in to our local computer shop. It took the guy 5 minutes to dust it top to bottom with a can of compressed air and I haven't had problems since. Talk about feeling like an idiot.
A few years ago, the guest bathroom tub was not draining. I went to the store for some Drain-o. Poured it in--nothing! Started mildly freaking out that we were going to have to call a plumber.
Finally, I realized the little stopper lever was not all the way down. Pushed it ALL THE WAY DOWN, and guess what happened? Goodbye water!!
Dummy me!!
