Sorry if this is TMI, but I got my period last Sunday (nine full days) ago. I still have it . It's not very heavy but it's not going away! I'm usually six or seven days at most and that is a stretch. I have a call into the doc's office but they still haven't called back and I doubt I will get to speak to her directly. This has never happened to me before. Have you had this same issue? What was the cause? Should I be worried??? Thanks for any feedback you can give me!

What can I do next?

IF you are in late 30s or 40s... could be perimenapause.. that is how it all starts.. periods get shorter then all of a sudden longer.... AHHHH getting older :) anyway.. 9 is about right me for me.. but I am 47....
about 3 days heavy.. then the next 6 days med to lite to spotting.

Are you taking any form of birth control? Sometimes that will happen. I would call your doctor back again and ask to speak with a nurse. Sometimes a period will change depending on your overall physical and mental stressors. However, if you are worried, I would check back in with your doctor just to be sure.

I'd talk to your doctor but if you're taking anything like ibuprofen it can thin your blood and cause you to bleed more....or you could have missed a very early pregnancy? not uncommon. Good luck. I'm sure all is fine.

When I was young I used to bleed for nearly two full weeks. Then, two weeks later (maybe, sometimes shorter) I'd be starting again.

Hormones fluctuate and mess with us down there. I doubt it's anything to be worried about.

I used to be super regular, every 26 days, and I could set a clock to my periods. they were 3 to 4 days and very normal. after having 3 babies within 20 months and then having my tubes tied after the twins were born, my periods are not normal anymore. sometimes it comes a whole week early, and they are more like 5 days now, once it was 7 and I thought it would never end. plus I used to get the most horrible cramps but since i've had the boys i never have cramps anymore. Maybe your body is changing after kids? I dont know your age, maybe early menopause? not sure, but just stay calm and get in to the doc, either gyno or reg just to see what's what/

You know when you're super stressed, your period can be late? Same thing, only the other way... it can make it drag on a little bit longer. Your body changes as you get older, and this could be caused by age, diet, stress, sleeping habits, etc. For me, a long period will come after a really short or late one... See what your doc says, but in the meantime, try to chill out and relax and see if it's gone by tmrw :)

I only did this when I had a severe hormone imbalance that was caused by a tubal ligation. Anything can cause a hormone imbalance, though. See a doctor for sure. Good luck!

This might sound strange, but every third period is long for me. 9-10 days or so. It's probably just your body acting a fool, like they do. :) I've had my thyroid checked as well, and mine is perfectly normal. Doctor said it's no big deal. Hope it ends soon!

Have your thyroid checked. I have a hypothyroid condition (easily treatable with daily medication, btw), and a never-ending period was the symptom that several doctors missed, and that finally drove me to get a fourth opinion and resolve the problem. Google "low thyroid symptoms" and see if any of them apply to you. Before I was diagnosed, I had my doctor try to put me on birth control, and the OB/GYN she referred me to recommended endometrial ablation. I guess that's all good and fine to treat the symptom, but I wanted to treat the problem! Anyway, luckily once I was diagnosed, treatment has been very easy and painless.

I went a whole 4 weeks bleeding. Yes 4 weeks. I had heavy uterine lining and have had issues in the past. Most definatly see doctor, make sure it is not something more serious. Then there are options out there. Endomertrial Ablation has worked wonderfuly for some friends of mine, I couldn't have it becuase I have cervical cell changes on my paps. If I got that, they could not find uterine cancer. If you are normal things could be good. I personally got the Mirena IUD. MY PERIOD STOPPED! THen it came back again, very lightly, then it only comes and lasts a few days with some spotting. Good luck to you, relax take some extra B vitamins to help with the energy loss. I got so bad I now take Iron, but you are only 9 days, I was over 30. Don't let it go. :)

I have been going through this for awhile. My periods are lasting 9-10 days. I just started taking Ortho Lo this month to try and regulate/lighten/shorten my periods & help with my terrible PMS. I feel so much better on it, and will find out soon if it shortens my periods as well.
