More dogs (and other pets) can get very frightened by FIREWORKS and TAKE OFF !!
More dogs are lost on the 4th of July than any other time of year !
I posted the same thing last year, too. It's an important day to put the dog on a leash !!!!!!
I always tell everybody I know !

HAPPY 4th

Both of my dogs were inside and fortunately neither one of them seemed the least bit fazed. The older one has never had an issue with loud noises but he is also now deaf as a doorknob, so I guess that is a bonus of them losing their hearing as they age. This was the puppy's first 4th of July but it didn't seem to bother him either.

Don't have dogs but we have indoor only cats. We make sure every window is closed completely before any of the fireworks so no one can possibly freak and push out a screen or something.
It is very important to protect your pets!

I am surrounded by 5 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, all laying peacefully, spread out around my living room rug.

No drugs, no tricks... we just taught them from puppyhood on that big booming noises didn't mean anything... starting with claps, to banging on objects, to using a thunderstorm as a training opportunity...

We don't take them outside during fireworks, no point in 'making' them stressed!

Wish I could post a pic of everyone, it is a wonderful thing to have happy calm dogs on the 4th of July!

Well...our town fireworks were postponed from yesterday (thunderstorms) to 12 july!

Today has been thunderstorms as well...so even 'local' fireworks seem on hold...

But yes...I try to keep my animals feeling safe...whatever (and whenever) 'works' are going on!

I just read about this in the newspaper today - a fact I never knew.

I never take my dog to any events, and I certainly wouldn't take him to a fireworks show. He hates loud noises as it is, so he stays inside.

Hope you had a fun fourth!!

This happened to someone I know last year. A friend was holding the dog or something and it freaked out and took off. They looked for HOURS and luckily found it. People need to keep their dogs at home and not take them to fireworks shows unless they KNOW how they will act.

I have several friends who have Thunder Shirts for their dogs. Seems to help a great deal during fireworks, as well as during thunderstorms.

We used to have to tranquilize our dog for the Fourth. Poor girl was epileptic, and was very nervous from being severely abused by her previous owners.

I usually shut my dog into a central room, and turn on a radio or television. Even the ones who are fine with the bangs are sensitive to those annoying whistling fountain fireworks.

When our dog was alive, she was either on a leash hanging out with everyone outside, or sleeping at my feet in the house. Never bothered her.

Our one dog Hunter broke his tie out leash today so he has been inside most of the day. Luckily my son saw him outside and were able to get quickly. All our other animals are inside pets. The only one I worry about is Spock, our orange tiger cat. He doesn't like loud noises and is hiding somewhere in the house.
