I want one too! I'm in Rockwall...I'll be right over :)
Seriously, that is a very cool idea! I say do it, she will love it!
So we're getting everything together and wrapped for Christmas. We realized, we never did anything for my grandmother. We are super close and I feel terrible I somehow overlooked it! Guilt aside, I need to figure something out. I don't have much time, and we are already over budget. She likes handmade things and is always telling us not to spend anyway. I had an idea. When I was seven we has a "Christmas store" at school. We got tokens when we were really good. I saved up my tokens all year, and used them on a dinky plastic snow globe for my grandma. She still has it, and every single year sits us all down and tells us the story as if we've never heard the story :) I thought of making her another snow globe. Would that be too lame? I feel weird giving such a small gift for someone so important. I have no other ideas and we're seeing her Friday for Christmas!! What do you think?
**ETA - I would be sculpting the scene myself out of clay and hand painting...if that makes a difference!

Get a glass container that seals (I like canning jars the best.) Glue whatever scene you want to the inside of the jar or container with super glue or water proof epoxy. Fill the jar most of the way with distilled water, add glitter or fake snow, and a dash or two of glycerin. I bought glycerin from the drugstore. You want whatever you use as a scene to be plastic, clay...basically anything besides metal. Screw the lid on TIGHT, as tight as you can get. And you're done!!
Ladies, you're awesome. I"m so glad so many of you suggested a handwritten note, I think that's a lovely idea. Thank you!!

I love it. I have seen some beautiful handmade snowglobes, and plan on making one this year too. That would be such a special gift.
Wow! I think she would appreciate it. Especially since you are sculpting the scene yourself!
I think that's an amazing gift! I would personally love that.
You could.
Or better yet give her:
a framed picture of your family (us a frame you have around the house
a calendar
w/a magazine & small thing of candies
blanket throw
Something easy you could p/u at the local drugstores
You know your grandma best. I don't think it's lame. You could also write her a letter telling her how special she is to you and put it in a nice frame. I did that for my grandma one year and she loved it. I typed it on nice paper and then signed my name.
oooh B.!!! will you make me one too?!?!???!
I think this is TOTALLY ROCKING COOL!!!! I think she will cry knowing you made it yourself and it will be treasured like the one she received from you all those years ago (no, I am not saying you are old!!! :) )
YOU GO!!! LOVE IT!!!!
I think that would be a good gift. Could you also give her some homemade goodies. Or if she's not into cooking for herself, perhaps some dishes she could freeze to have later.
How do you make a snow globe? Thanks, B.. My granddaughter loves snow globes. This will be a good project for her over winter break.
I think it will be a wonderful gift for your grandma.
I think that sounds like an absolutely perfect idea & something I surely would never have thought of myself!
I think it would be perfect! Merry Christmas!
If I were your grandmother, I'd love it. It's so personally from you! Write a note with it, telling her how much she means to you. If it would be appropriate, let her know that you plan to take her out to lunch some time after the holidays so that you two can have some time together.
Not lame, cute and sweet! Remind her of the one when you were 7 before she opens the gift!
Dawn
What a marvelous idea. She will be telling this story along with the other. You are so thoughtful.
That sounds beautiful! If I were crafty I would do something like that.
Making it yourself? COOL. I would love that.
I would love somehting like that...and ya gave me an idea too! Lol
I'll meet ya at Hobby Lobby on Goliad! LOL (just teasin of course)
That is not a small gift, it is a gift from the heart and it soulds like your grandma will love it. It shows her that you love her and are thinking of what she will like best.
