Hard to say. My guess is, it's not the grass (unless she's had a problem before), but a reaction to any of the following: pesticides/herbicides/fertilizer, gypsy moth caterpillar or similar, ant's nest (fire ants or other biting ant), a toxic plant of some sort (too quick for poison ivy, but the same idea), and so on.

Was she playing in the grass before she fell? Honestly, it sounds like chiggers to me. They are very, very common in Central Illinois. It could also be that she has some mosquito bites.

I would just keep an eye on it. If it doesn't start to look a little bit better today, maybe call the doctor for a suggestion as to something to give her for relief.

sounds like contact dermatitis to me too. both my kids would get reddened skin where it touched the grass when they were toddlers both have since grown out of that thankfully.
i get hives every time i pick my green beans. i can eat them no problem but picking them i have to wear long sleeves and pants or i am super itchy. it goes away after a few hours but preventing contact helps for me.

When I was a kid, I used to get 'grass rash' all the time. I don't have an allergy to grass per se, just used to happen when I'd be sitting on the grass with bare skin. Perhaps it's contact dermatitis... I don't know. Just wash the skin as soon as possible after exposure, or pack a lightweight piece of cloth for her to use/picnic blanket if you plan on sitting on it.

If the grass has been recently cut or damp, this can also happen.

To me (not an expert) it sounds like it could be contact dermatitis - which is just being sensitive more than anything, and it results in a reaction that is bumpy (can look a bit like hives, although my kids have just had tons of little red bumps) and it can be itchy too.

One of my sons has it to ketchup of all things.

He takes Benedryl as he tends to be more prone to this than my other kids. He also has allergies. Benedryl is for the itching.

I have it when doing gardening sometimes. If I touch cedar bushes for example, I get itchy little red bumps. Same if I'm decorating our Christmas tree. I wear gloves.

If your daughter has it to grass - is this a new thing? I'd take pictures, go see the doctor. To me, you'd know if it was grass if she's had it before. Could be something on the grass (or in the grass) that caused it.

Impossible to say without more investigation. Grass allergies tend to me more of the itchy eyes and runny nose variety. A rash after falling on the ground could be from pesticides on the grass, or insects in the grass like no-see-ums (tiny gnats, mites) or chiggers.

We don't know what it is?
Did you clean the area? Does it still itch? Is it still red?

Ask your Dr. We have no clue what it is!!!!

Could be allergy? Yes? Allergy to what? Who knows???

Put an anti itch creme on it and talk to the Dr
