Is This a Decent Anniversary Gift?

My BF and I have our 3 year anniversary next week and I feel like I didn't put a tremendous amount of thought into his gift this year, I've just been BUSY... but I went to 'Things Remembered' at the mall (love that store!) and got him a cool pocket knife (his old one, which he had had for YEARS, got lost when we moved last year) and had our initials and anniversary dated engraved in the handle... I think it's kind of cool, but I also feel kind of cheap, lol... do guys even like sentimental stuff like that?! I don't work well under pressure, LOL..

What can I do next?

Great idea. I think you could come up with a creative way to give it to him, like hide it in your bra and when you initiate some intimacy, he finds it. Everytime he sees it, he remembers...you know THINGS REMEMBERED. LOL

R.,
I think the pocket knife is a cool gift. I'm sure he like. Guys aren't generally as sentimental as we are. But they can appreciate a well-thought act. And since he lost his old knife, yours is a practical gift as well.
Happy Anniversary!

I love Suz's answer.
Just curious; you've sent several posts out over the months, and I'm sure some of us are pretty well aware of many of the ups and downs of your relationship. Your boyfriend has been painted as a rather self-absorbed man, and though I'm sure there are his good points, it is the bad ones that are brought up. With that in mind, some of your posts have dealt specifically with gifts and/or special things that you're trying to do for this man. While I think this is admirable, given some of the 'downs' of your situation, I wonder: What kinds of gifts does he give to YOU on these same occasions?
Not to say that you should only give him something fabulous if he's giving YOU something fabulous, but you seem very conscientious of his happiness and in doing the right thing by him, and sadly, it does not seem like he's the type to do the same.
As for the pocket knife, I think it's a great present. Heck, I'm MARRIED and my husband and I don't really give gifts to each other on our anniversary.

Well, my ex-husband is extremely sentimental with that kind of thing. I'm not sure how much my boyfriend would be. I think by 3 years, you should know if he'd like that kind of thing. I don't think it's cheap at all, by the way! Happy anniversary!

um.......no.
this occasion requires a sumptuous breakfast in bed for him, followed by a day of fishing and/or softball or doing whatever it is HE wants to do, an expensive dinner out, a plasma tv, and an entire evening of you playing the devoted harem slavegirl.
what WERE you thinking?

R. - you sound like a very sweet person. I'm not sure guys are into the sentimental thing, but the knife is very cool (engraved or not!) One time I went to a portrait studio with my 2 girls and we gave the pictures of the 3 of us to my husband for Fathers Day. He said they were nice but he didn't seem as excited as I had hoped! Oh well. I keep one of the pictures on my own desk - ha ha!

Anyway, Analee said some of the things I was thinking. I hope your boyfriend appreciates you and all you do to make things special for him. You deserve to be treated the same way :)
