Is This a Crazy Idea? - Richardson,TX

Hi Mamas,

I'm looking to return to work now that my little guy is bigger. Of course, it's taking a while to find something in the "traditional" work force, and I am NOT interested in MLM/"work from home" gigs that cost money to start.

I had a bit of a brainstorm about doing something like a "virtual assistant", but with a bit more of a social networking focus - tweeting, blogging, linkedin entry, etc. for business owners who NEED to do this but don't LIKE to do this. I know it'll take some time to get going, but I really would like to find a way to generate income in the interim, WHILE I am applying, networking, etc.

Does this sound crazy? Do you have any thoughts, feedback, etc.? Pointers, etc. would also be appreciated :)

Thanks so much!

I think it's a great idea. If you know any business owners or HR people, that would be a good place to start! Good luck!

Love this idea and plenty of people do this. My old boss had to tweet and FB our biz constantly as we were in fashion and she hated it. She hired this young saavy girl who tweeted and FB'd and Blogged and was fabulous. Do it!!!

You could start by swapping services - for example - find some independently owned businesses that have services you need (restaurants, hair dresser, daycare, etc.) and offer to do some social media promoting in return for a service from them. Maybe offer a months worth of social promotion for a service from them.

If they get new customers, request that the new customers fill out a "How did you hear about us" card so that you, and the business owner, can see what impact you are having on their business.

If you do twitter and facebook for the business, you can see what you can do to increase the number of people following them on those medias. You can document what their following was to begin with and how your work increased that following or better utilized it.

Another idea would be to see what you could do to get the business mentioned on blogs or other media, and to get sites to link to the businesses site. THe more sites link to the business, the better the google rating.

The goal would be to have some tangible results that you can share with paying customers and also some references.
