Is There Anything That Works to Cool Baby in Car Seat and Bed?

Please help. My grandson is almost 3 months old and is super HOT natured. He cries in the car seat when he gets hot and will not sleep well if he is too hot at night. I saw there is something for the car seat but the reviews were not good. Not something to cool off initially but to keep him cool. Anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

Roll the window down a little bit. You could also get one of those sun shades for the car window to keep the sun from baking him. At night either put less clothes on him or get a fan to circulate the air in his room. Don't have the wind from the fan actually hitting him, just circulating the air in the room should help.

J., I see that you put an answer to your own question below. That's just not a helpful way to do it! Please take that info and write "edited to add" and put it at the bottom of your original question! That way EVERYONE will see it. The way you're doing it, all new responders will be expected to read every single answer from every person, and you'll be hoping that they realize one is from you!

You dress him in very little, and you can try putting a towel underneath him in the car seat or perhaps one of those "wicking" shirts that athletes wear to wick the sweat away from his body and into a towel below. I caution you on this though, because you cannot have too much material between him and the car seat and straps, or he won't be safe. (There have been a ton of warnings about putting kids in car seats with their winter coats on, for example.)

And have you discussed this with the pediatrician to figure out why he's so hot? I wouldn't use any products without verifying them with the doctor or the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

my son was born in the hottest month. temps were over 100 degrees. he hung out slept and was most comfortable in just a diaper. i would put a onesie on him to give some padding to the carseat straps but he didn't need anything more than that.

I always used the terry cloth car seat liners (with headrests) during the summer.

My niece kept her baby in a diaper and one of those new linen-stretchy super lightweight (almost see through) swaddling sheets for summer. Baby liked being wrapped but it was so lightweight he may as well just have been in his diaper. She got them at babies R Us I believe. Wished I'd had them.

My son is the same way I started dressing him in just a onesie during the summer and put a thin receiving blanket down first so he wasn't on the car seat material. Now being winter Though I just dress him warm enough but no big clothes(sweaters, fleece no jacket either ) that helps him and bedtime I only dress him in 100 percent cotton Jammie's. No polyester that makes him sweat so bad.

My son was born the end of August in Fort Lauderdale - we dressed him in a diaper and onesies. Of course, we air condition the car and the house. In his bedroom, we always run a ceiling fan - there is some research that says running a ceiling fan reduces the chance of SIDS. I've not had a sweaty baby in the car seat unless he cried a lot - then there is nothing you can do, babies that are crying heat up. I would double check your car seat to make sure there isn't anything poking or prodding him in there. My babies both loved their car seats.

Good luck!

You could try one of those gel pads that can be placed under the crib sheet. I got one for my husband for the summer and plan to get one for myself this year. It is a thin gel pad that you can place inside the pillow case to keep you cool at night. It should not interfere with car seat fit since it is pretty thin. Though in the seat, you might want to place it within a pillow case or maybe under a receiving blanket.

B he is in the lightest clothing we can put on him and when we get him out of car his back and hair is covered in sweat.

We have a fan attached to his seat but that doesn't help his back.

Sounds like his environment is too warm. Babies don't need full length sleepers and blankets and covers. They need to dress in a way that reflects what the adults are wearing. If the vehicle is hot when you get in then take his car seat inside when you go. If the car is going to be in the sun while you're inside then maybe take the carrier part with you if you can.
