Is There a Product to Isolate Source of Cat Pee Smell?

my elderly arthritic cat had a UTI a few weeks ago and peed under my bed. I thought I doused the area pretty good as best as I could with Nature's Miracle but tonight when I walked in there I could still smell it. Either I missed an area or one of the cats went again. One of them also went in my son's bedroom and I thought I figured the area out but I could smell it again a few days later. Since I am pregnant I am sensitive to smell so maybe I am just hypersensitive, but I can't crawl under a king size bed and smell every spot. I tried a cheap black light from petco and it didn't work. Does anyone know of a product out there that I can use to tell where the offending areas are and that will totally eliminate the smell?

What can I do next?

The problem I had when my older cat peed on the carpet is that it soaked into the sub-floor. I had to tear out all the carpet, bleach the sub-floor before the smell was gone. I was so intent on never having the problem again I put it hardwood.

PetCo sells a product called Stink Gone, or something like that- has the word stink in it, in the cat section that really does work. My friend's cat had a UTI and peed on the sofa. She tried about 5 different things including most of the stuff mentioned here and you could still smell it. But this product really works. It's expensive, a bottle costs about $12. You saturate the area and let it dry. The smell is gone.

The black light should work but like others have said, you might have to wait until night time and turn off all the lights to see it glow. I too used a squirt bottle b/c the spray bottle won't get down to the padding. One kit I bought had a large plastic syringe so I could really get the product deep down. I have had success w/Nature's Miracle so maybe your heightened senses makes the odor more noticeable. Make sure you use alot of it so it gets down to the subfloor. That was my mistake the first few accidents b/c I wasn't using enough. Good luck!

Check at a pet store. I think they have lights that will do this. It seems like it is a black light. Pet Smart had some but that was a long time ago. I just googled it and it is a black light.

Sol-U-Mel won't detect the area(s), but it will eliminate the smell. If you have any friends who shop with Melaleuca, ask if they have Sol-U-Mel on hand. I'm never without it! (I live in Lutherville too, CW!)

A blacklight will show the area. I use a squirt bottle ( not a spay bottle) filled with hotwater and oxyclean powder and soak the spot until it is really saturated. I let it set for a few minutes and them use towels and soak up the water and let it dry really well. I find that the Oxyclean works better at getting up the stains and odor.

A black light should work! It does for me. Black lights expose other things, too, but you'll see (brightly) what looks like spray (or a puddle) and that's it. Use it all around, too, not just on the places you see first.

It also helps to have the room as dark as you can get it. Sometimes I have to wait until nighttime.

Nature's Miracle works well, but you have to get it on every bit of what the cat left.

Poor kitty! Give him a lot of love anyhow!

A black light will for sure. We bought a kit that had one in it. Sadly be prepared to be disgusted with how many stains are hiding in your carpet. They could be cat urine or it could be beverages too. It definately lets you know where there is a problem so you can try and clean it. I worked on our couch for ever with several remedies and I even injected it into the foam cushion. It helped but didn't elimitate the odor so I didn't sit on that couch for a few months before I finally convinced my husband to throw it away.
