Hello. I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. This past week has been very hard, I found a Beagle puppy outside my job freezing, put her in my car and took her home. Exact same way I found my 1st beagle of 10 yrs that we had to lay down yesterday. Thanking God last week on the way home with new puppy for our next blessing. Had her 4 days. She really affected my asthma so I took her to the pound before we all got more attached. Here's my sign.. my husband and I sitting in car yesterday so upset while the vet is giving our beagle her shot and the phone rings, lady calls on ad and says "oh, not my beagle but I'm glad someone's taking care of her honey" I so badly want to go and pick her back up. I'm so torn!! Thanks for any uplifting comments.

So What Happened?

Wonderful news! An old friend of mine from High school saw her on the pound web site BEFORE she saw the posting on my facebook and was in love with her and went and picked her up Monday morning! She was meant to be her puppy! Thank you Lord! I was really struggling with this one. : )

I took a sick dog to the pound once. Went to pick her up only to find they had put her down because they did not have the resources to care for sick animal. Go get her ASAP.

Sorry but anti-allergen soap is not going to work. Find her a good home, that is the best you can do.

A., you can try a few thing... first, take her to a groomer and have her bathed. Explain to them that you have asthma and request they use only simple shampoo and no perfume. Request they clean her EARS really really well. The yeast that builds up in there is what sets off my step-mother's asthma. You can also add a tablespoon of vinegar to her drinking water. there is an additive you can get from the vet for allergies also. It's to put on their water or food. It neutralizes the dander. Keep her bathed often and wipe her with baby wipes or dryer sheets...keep her ears spotless. Brush her teeth too! My stepmother also takes Singulair (sp?) And tolerates my THREE DOGS AND CAT... I personally believe that your body just needs the opportunity to adjust to her. Good luck!

I have my dog groomed 2x a year. I always ask for shampoo without any perfumes and hypoallergy shampoo. I am always bothered by smells. I also pick up any shampoo that has no scent and is hypoallergenic. I go to pet supplies plus which is close to home. I'm sure you can get what you need at any pet store. I also think having someone brush them weekly outside will help reduce the hair. Also vacuuming frequently and replacing the bags frequently (on vacuum). I also use an air purifier to clean the air. I usually run it after vacuuming and also after opening windows to circulate the air. No dogs are allowed in bedrooms to sleep. And I wash her beddings frequently. Hands should be washed after playing with her.

If it was me, I would check back with the pound . If she is still there, I would take her home. If she was already adopted out, I would say a prayer of thanks that she found a home. Otherwise, to the pound, she would be just another "after Christmas return" that they get flooded with at this time every year, and therefore, "disposable". By this time, she has probably been bathed, cleaned up, and given her necessary innoculations. If you had a Beagle before, and had no allergy problems, I would consider that as an indicator that it more likely be the soap previously used on her.

Sorry to hear about your older beagle. You could try her regularly and vacuuming a lot, adding an air purifier with hepa and carbon filters and seeing if that helps. If you bathe her often looks for a soap free shampoo that won't strip her coat. I know some people that have adjusted after a few weeks with a new pet, it is usually the dander and saliva that bother you as I'm sure you know. Running a damp cloth over her several times a day may help. I know we have family visit that is allergic to cats (we have 3) and they do not have an issue in our house as long as I vacuumed the day before or day they were coming and our air purifiers are running. I'm not sure what the product is, but I do know one family that had a similar experience when they got a new cat and the husband was highly allergic to the new one. They had a spray that the wife used once or twice a day along with wiping the cat down and that helped.

You may or may not be able to adjust to her, even though she is the same breed. If she makes your asthma bad I would be careful. It is a tough decision for you and your family if you should try and adopt her now or not. Good luck on whatever you do decide and hope it works out well for you.

I'm not one to keep pets if they affect human health...
But - It sounds like your puppy might have fleas... They might affect your asthma. She might just need a good bath and grooming.
I use Dawn Dishwashing liquid for my dog. I know it's not "dog shampoo" and some will probably give me a hard time, but it works. The fleas hate it and he looks great!
YMMV
