Hi Norman moms--my husband, daughter, and I will be moving to Norman in about 3 weeks. By the time we get there, I will be almost 36 weeks pregnant! Yikes--worst timing ever. But that's life. I just got set up with a new OB today--Shelba Bethel. Has anybody had her as an OB? What did you think? Since I will be so far along, I feel like beggars can't be choosers, I have to see SOMEBODY, but I'm hoping she's nice. Thanks for any info. you may have.

What can I do next?

L., Dr. Bethel is THE BEST in Norman!!! She delivered all 3 of my children (with my middle pregnancy, we moved earlier than planned, just so she would be able to deliver-I was 36 weeks). I have NO complaints with her AT ALL. I felt so comfortable with her and all her knowledge and expertise. She is a no-nonsence, take charge little lady, who's been doing this for longer than most OB's have been alive, but she still gets excited about her work. Rest at ease knowing that you are in excellent hands. I hope all goes well with your move, take it easy!

Not to worry she delivered my oldest daughter and has been my OBGYN for many years. Her bed side manner can be lacking sometimes, but her knowledge makes up for it. Your in good hands....

I go to her daughter, Dr. Mulligan, who is in the same practice, and I am good friends with some of the office staff. They are very knowledgable, calm, nice ladies. I had both of my children through them and felt very assured in their decision making skills. In fact Dr. Mulligan saved my life, because she recommended that all women in her practice get a baseline mammogram at 35, (AMA says just sometime before 40) which I did, they found breast cancer and told me if i had waited i would have died before 40. And the whole office was very supportive, caring through that ordeal, dr. Mulligan actually visited me in the hospital.

ACtually had to have Dr. Bethel in the delivery room for my 2nd since she was the one on call. A friend of mine used her also for a cyst issue and since i went with her often for her visits I can tell you first hand she is a good doctor. There is one nurse in her office who is a little brisk, but if you realize she is just trying to get stuff done it won't bother you. I used to have to wait hours to get seen, but that wait time has really decreased in recent years because of their new office arrangement (maybe the brisk nurse!) I would still bring a book. Some doctors may be more enthusiastic about things, and these ladies, while still very nice and sincere, get down to business and get you taken care of without alot of talk. So they are efficient. But, as indicated by the wait time, they do take the time a patient needs when it is necessary. so you won't be shortchanged in your visit or your needs.

Let me know if you need anything else, someone to talk to, help with your kids or finding something in norman. Norman is great and friendly with alot to offer. Best of luck!

I have 4 or 5 friends who use her and just love her. Good luck with your move. Don't do any heavy lifting. Norman is a great community. You might consider getting involved with MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). They have an east side group and a west side group. Take good care of yourself during this move and welcome to Norman!
