I would talk to you OB and possibly talk to a chiropractor. I had to see one when I was carrying both my boys from pain management. It was the only way I got relief.

None of us on this internet forum are qualified to give you medical advice.

Certainly, you are seeing a high risk OB since you are a parapalegic? Tell your OB about your pain and ask he or she what, if any medicines you can take while pregnant.

Best wishes!

Welcome to mamapedia!! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You didn't say how far along you are or where your spinal damage is that made you an incomplete paraplegic.

I don't think anyone here is an OB/GYN so - we would not be able to give you any medical advice. Please talk to your OB/GYN - call the nurse and let them know your discomfort level.

Do you have a body pillow?
Are you allowed a massage therapist or a chiropractor? If so - get massages to help release the stress in the muscles.

most times when pregnant you can't take anything more than Tylenol for the pain, find out what you can take and how much and how often. I would NOT take ANYTHING unless MY doctor recommended it.

I have PCOS as well. I have been pregnant 6 times and have 3 kids. So nothing is impossible.

Good luck!!

ditto sweetchaos,

but have you tried sleeping on your side with a full body pillow between your legs?

I had incredible hip pain during my last pregnancy. When you are pregnant, your body produces excess amounts of a hormone/chemical (whatever) called...relaxin? I think. Anyhow, this is the reason many women's feet grow during pregnancy, because the joints are stretched, and the same can happen with the hips. Mine were so bad that I was at risk of hip dislocation.

My OB sent me to PT, and they gave me a large elastic band to wear around my hips. It was like a girdle. Almost immediately, the pain lessened...and within days (of wearing it just a few hours) the pain was gone.

You need to ask your doctor, but if the above device wouldn't do you any harm, I absolutely recommend it.

I took darvocet throughout my entire pregnancy for debilitating joint pain. And my kiddo didn't have any problems with withdraw or anything.

There are things you can take for pain throughout pregnancy, but you'll need your ob to prescribe for you. So why not call him/her in the morning?

A pillow between your legs may help. Forgive me if someone has already mentioned this. I would recommend spending time in a pool as well. It will lift the weight off your hips and give you some relief while in the water. Congratulations! What a joy to become a mother!

I had a lot of pain on one side when I needed to roll over or get out of bed. It did help to use a pillow at night between my knees. I also used a Snoogle to support my belly. I had to sit up to roll over. I found that the pain was worse in the AM and it abated later in the day, too. Maybe after the blood got flowing again. You may want to talk to your doctor about what you can specifically do, given your medical needs.

I really think you need to call your doctor and ask what is safe for you to do and take.

You should also visit a chiropractor, who can help adjust your back and take some of the pressure off. This is totally safe to do during pregnancy, as long as you find a chiro that has a lot of experience dealing with pregnant women.

You may also need to find a different position to be in throughout the day. I'm guessing that the extra weight bearing down on you when you are constantly in the same seated position is what's causing most of the problems. Also, because you don't have feeling in the rest of your legs, your hips are taking the brunt of the pain. You may need to try elevating your legs more while you're in your chair, or taking breaks so you can lie down on your side and take some of the weight off your hips.

Oh, sweetheart, if you are hurting that bad, you need to see a doctor!
At least call the doctor but I bet he will need to see you as soon as possible. I don't know if it's just the usual loosening of the joints that happens with pregnancy or not. But it shouldn't be that painful. See your doctor. If you are ok afterward then get a book of what to expect when you are expecting, either from the library or buy a copy.
Hope things are ok!

Call your doctor. She might refer you for physical therapy and/or recommend the right medications to help ease the pain.

Feel better and good luck. Just remember - the pain will somewhat go away once the baby is born and you will have so much joy then!!
