Is It Worth Going to Sesame Place with an 18 Month Old?

My 18 month old daughter loves Elmo and we thought it would be fun to take her to Sesame Place in PA but we don't know anything about it aside from reviews we read on the web. Has anyone had any experience with the place? Admission is pretty pricey but it's free for her at this point.

What can I do next?

Hi Gillian,
You should absolutely take her. I took my daughter for the first time when she was 18 months and she LOVED it. They have a handful of rides for kids that age and some kiddie pools...we did all of that but her favorite parts were the live shows and meeting all the characters. The shows are about 25 minutes long and they kept our active daughter's attention the entire time. They also have places all over the park where you can wait in line and take pics with all the different characters for FREE (they advertise breakfasts and lunches where you can do the same thing, but they charge quite a bit for those). Also, the tickets are usually 2 days for the price of one, so we drove up during nap time one Saturday, stayed at the park until it closed, spent the night in a hotel, then got to the park when it opened and drove home again during nap time. It was so perfect we did it again this year.

We just took our daycare there last month as our family field trip. The age range that went with us was 17 months to 8 years. Each child had at least one parent that went with them. The kids especially the under 4 loved the park. From the parade through the park to water tubing and the rides. The Elmo show that is put on at least 4xs through out the day. I think your daughter would love it. The park is meant for younger children. It is not like a Six Flags or Kings Dominion where there is only a section for your little and not really for any child under 3. My daughter is 23 months and loves the water, but also loved all the rides we got on. Like the Elmo ride that goes in a circle but your child can push a button the car your in goes up and down, that was her favorite.

That was 2nd time going but my first as a mother and to watch my daughter wanting to get on the rides and loving it, I had fun watching her. I would take your daughter, they also have dinner or lunch with Elmo and Big Bird that you can purchase. She may love that since she likes Elmo.

We took our 8-month old daughter and she LOVED it! We pretty much stayed in the kiddie pool area. We also did Elmo's world (also a hit) and stayed for the parade. Try to go to the breakfast with Elmo if you can -- that was the best opportunity to get my daughters (I have a 3yo as well) in pictures with the characters and they got to interact with ALL of them one-on-one. We ate, played in the pool, saw Elmo, stayed for the parade (It's at 2:00 or 3:00, I think) and then went home. Well worth it -- kids slept the entire 2-hour ride.

Gillian,Hi. Just got home from work and read ur question. We took our daughetr this past summer and last summer, when she was 2 and then 3.
Maybe 18 months is too young. There are not a lot of rides. It's mostly water play areas, pool. The park is not that big. It's worth going once. Maybe wait till next summer. Even at age 2 and my daughter loving Elmo, she was scared of all the people dressed up as characters. Also they have fireworks at night which I thought was nice but my daughter freaked out and cried. Here's a park that is a little bit more low key and there are rides you could take your 18 month old on at Dutch Wonderland in PA. I can't remember the website but google it. They even have healthy food options, betetr than most amusement parks.
If you do go to Sesame Place, visit the Crayola Factory in Easton PA, it's about an 1 hr drive.
Good Luck

I remember going there as a kid (my grandmother lived not too far away) and I only have memories of the water park part. I guess there is more stuff there though. I mostly remember something like those big interconnected crawl spaces like they have on playgrounds, but this one had water all spraying through it an also a water slide and lots of shovey older kids. This was in the 80's though. Surely they've developed more and better attractions since then. :)
