Hi All! I need some help on this one. My son's school is having a pool party at the local pool this friday. It is going to be almost 80 degrees, but the water is still too cool (I think). What do you think, would you let your kid go?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies! Unfortunately I don't get to go with him (I have to work & the school didn't request Parents to help), although I am letting him go. I do however work 3 blocks from the pool and will stop bye on my lunch break to check in on him. He doesn't know this yet, LOL. Thanks for all the support, knew what I wanted to do, just needed that nudge!

I remember as a kid asking " can we swim? " The magic number my M. said was 80. I still follow this rule with my daughter. My daughter always asks "is it 80 so we can swim?".
I think he will be fine in 80 degree weather, if the water is too cold he will get out. Best wishes and God Bless!

In my opionion, yes. But, maybe you can do something like go with him and limit the amount of time he is in there, or limit the time at the party.

Oh let him go! If he is cold - he won't swim but still have fun. Once these kids get active - they will be fine. Quit worrying!

If your child wants to go...let him. We have a neighborhood pool which opened this Memorial Day weekend. The heater wasn't working but there were lots of kids braving the 79 degree water. My 4 yr old even endured it for 30 minutes. She was shivering and blue-lipped but really wanted to swim.

Let him know that the water may be very cold. Make sure you have lots of towels to warm up in afterward. Besides, he may just want to stay out of the water and play other games.

Why deny him some fun with friends? Good Luck

F.,
We were invited to a pool party on Saturday and we are going. It sounds like it is the end of the school year fun party... you should let him go! It's about having fun with your friends before summer, if the water is too cold he'll get out. I vote for the fun! R.'

I would think the water would be way too cold for swimming just yet. It's only been in the 40s at night and hasn't been consistently warm enough to maintain a warmer water temperature. So, unless the pool is indoors or heated, I would think it would be too cold.

Would you be going too? If so, you can check the water out yourself and see what you think. And, if you let your son in the pool, just watch his reactions. If he starts to shiver or gets goosebumps, tell him it's time to get out. That's what I would do anyway. I don't see any reason he shouldn't go to spend time with his classmates even if he isn't in the water a whole lot. They may all decide on their own that it's too cold and play around the pool deck.

Hope this helps.

God bless,
A.
