When should I start taking my daughter to the dentist? I have heard many different times and I do not know if I need to take her now. Also, does anyone know of any dentists that specialize in kids on the Westside of Fort Worth or nearby? Thank you all for your help!

What can I do next?

My children see Dr. Randall Barkley. He is located on Hulen (just North of Vickery Blvd). His office number is ###-###-####. He is awesome. He starts seeing children at 13mos and continues to see them thru 13 years. My daughter saw him for the first time when she was 13mos, and at least every 6 mos since.

My pedi recommended seeing the dentist at his 1 year check-up and we began seeing Isabel Britian and she is wonderful. I have also heard good things about Gordon Strole.

I was always told a year old as well. I took my daughter when she was 18 months and it was horrible. The dentist was great, but my daughter was not ready. I held her and she still cried. The dentist could not even do a cleaning so I paid $75.00 for her to tell me lets try in another 6 months. I brush her teeth twice a day and floss at night the dentist said that was great and her teeth looked great. I also make sure to brush her teeth when she has had anythign sweet to eat. You know your daughter better than anyone so if you think she can sit still and have them clean her teeth then I would take her, but if not just wait make sure to brush her teeth as often as you can and floss at night she will be fine until she gets a little older.

I was told my my daughters pediatrician that they need to start going at 1 yr and then every 6mo after that. They dont do much they just look and brush their teeth with a floride treatment. Around 3 or 4 when they get their molars they can apply a sealant that helps prevent cavities, I had it done when I was little and will be doing it for my daughter when she gets hers. It is easy and painless and saves a ton of worry about cavities. Hope I could help

I started taking my two kids to the dentist when they were two years old. To help prepare them for the first time, I got them a couple books about going to the dentist. My daughter loved Dora's Show Me Your Smile. Her daycare also had health week when they had a dentist come in and talk to the kids. It made her more comfortable knowing what to expect. I would check with your daycare to see if thats something they do. I would also talk to your daughter's pedi, mine gave me several referrals for dentists. Then talk to the dentist to see if you like them before making an appt for your daughter. Because if your happy with the dentist your daughter will be much more comfortable. Hope this has helped.

We've always started at a year old.

Love love love Dr Preece on Hulen across from the mall. A little googling brought this up - http://www.drpreece.com/

We also saw Dr Strole for a few months & really only left because of insurance issues, great experiences there.
