Is It Safe to Take 5 Grams of Creatine a Day While Pregnant?

I am TTC, but have fibromyalgia so I currently take pain meds and a muscle relaxer every day, but my OB said I can't. There is a new study out that shows that taking 5 grams of creatine a day can help with the pain and fatigue, so I was wondering if anyone out there knew if I can take it without harming the potential fetus? I know I can call my OB but sometimes it's hard to get through and I don't get answers for days...

I am not sure, but if you are not getting answers from your OB I would change Dr's. You should never have to wait for days for answers. Especially since you did have one MC. Good Luck and congratulations.

I would ask your doctor first. I take fish oil for my peripheral neuropathy and it helps a lot! I take more than the recommended dosage but I've taken it through two pregnancies without a problem. Two good brands that are free of pollutants are Nordic Naturals and Carlsons.

I would say no. But you should put a call in to your OB before you even consider taking it.

I would also advise to speak with your OB before taking anything especially since you miscarried prior. I wouldn't put anything into your body that you do not need especailly creatine that to me just doesn't sound like a great idea. Good luck! We are currently TTC for #2

Creatine can cause dehydration, so if you're trying to get pregnant you may wish to avoid it if at all possible. Granted, the amount you describe probably wouldn't cause serious dehydration but at the same time you really want your physiology to be running as healthily as possible, right?

Definitely a question for an OB.

Have you tried any pain management tools like energy tapping? It has been taught in hospitals like Swedish Covenant and Resurrection and often works when nothing else will.
