My 15 month old baby is on whole milk now and I have stopped breastfeeding him when he was 3 months old...Now my milk is starting to come in again? Is that normal?

What can I do next?

S.,

Is the discharge/milk normal in color, no blood or very green? Do you leak milk or does it come out only when you express? How long has your baby been nursing free? I would talk to you OB GYN but from my own experience, I have an almost 2 year old and I can still squeeze out milk, especially around time of ovulation. My Dr. told me to wear a tight fitting bra and to avoid stimulation which can send a message to your body to make more milk. Hope this helps.

well.. my son is 16 months old. i stopped nursing when he was 4 mos old....to this day when he gets hungry or when i get into a hot shower, i still leak a little..and it's not colostrum. i asked my ob about it and she said it wasn;t all that unusual. she did ask if there was any swelling or pain (both no). since there wasn't she told me not to worry...ask your ob.

Yes it is. I stopped breast feeding my daughter at 6 months and up until a few months ago, I still had milk. It took about 9 months for me to dry up completely.

Hi S.
i had the same problem. Well my now 2 yr old son was about 2-3 months old when this happened to me. I didnt even breast feed him. The drs office said it can happen like this forever. But luckily it went away. I am sure yours will too.

Good luck
K.

As the other ladies have told you, yes, it does happen. Just to ease my own mind, however, if it was me, I would be sure to either call my ob/gyn or make sure I brought it up at my next check up though. It happened to me also and my dr did a very simple blood test to check my pituitary gland (I think it was that... it was 11 yrs ago!) Everything was fine but better to know for sure.

Hi S.,
The answer to your question is 'absolutely'. I'd hate to think that it's normal, but it happened to me as well. When I had my first child, I couldn't nurse because I was actually overflowing with milk all the time. He couldn't catch up with the flow. So, I started pumping, and he had an endless supply-----for 2 years. I stopped pumping after 6 months, but it just couldn't stop. The doctors had no answers. It stopped when I got pregnant with the second child (2 years later). Ditto. Fast forward to 3rd child. I decided to give her formula from day 1, and just let it dry up, which it did after 6 months. It's an uncomfortable situation, but never stop looking for answers. Sorry I couldn't offer any, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone in this. Good luck.
