Is it OK to report to CPS if you only met the victim once and don't know their names?

I work delivering notices to peoples' homes and I went to a house with kids. The parent went to the bathroom and the child was asking me to take her home. I asked what's wrong and she said her parents touched her. I know the parents name.

She meant for her to live with me.

What can I do next?

If it were me, I'd think long and hard about this.
Not knowing the child's name probably isn't the issue. If CPS comes to do a health and welfare inspection, other things may come to light.

I'd be stunned if a child was asking me to take them home with them and suggested that there was inappropriate touching going on. In fact, instead of CPS, I might call the police non-emergency line to talk to an officer and get some information about how to proceed.

If you feel a child was/is in imminent danger, why would you NOT call CPS?
I find this an odd question, in several ways.

Call CPS and the police. Explain what happened and that you are concerned for the child's safety.

Let me get this straight, you were delivering notices and instead of just signing for them, they let you in, went to the bathroom leaving you alone with their abused child?

Yeah right!

How could you not know their name if you were delivering notices?

Please if anything has ever screamed troll on this board this does.

I don't understand. The child asked you to take her "home" or away from the home? If she asked you to take her home, does that mean that it was not HER home that you were at? If so, that's very scary--that sounds like a kidnapping victim. Please clarify what you meant.

So confused here. What does delivering notices mean? Why would the child ask to go home with you? This is the first time you met this child and she wants to go home with you? Do you mean that she told you her parents were beating her or molesting her? How old is the child? Where other wierd things going on?

Welcome to mamapedia!!

I'm sorry that must have been hard to hear. Since you have the address, I would've called CPS or the police right then and there. You don't say the age of the child - could she be telling a story because she's mad at her parents? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not.

Did she state how they touched her? Where they touched her? If she gave you a lot of detail while the parent was away in the restroom - I would've used my cell phone to call the police.

I know there are kids who KNOW how to work the system and KNOW what to say - they've learned it in school - we've beat it into them - don't allow ANYONE to touch your private parts. So if you want to do something - do. Call the police and/or CPS and let them handle it.

how old was the child? I don't know if that matters, but sometimes kids repeat things - especially young ones. Have you witnessed anything? Were there other kids there?

Other kids might corroborate the story.

Yes, it is OK to call CPS. I would, personally. CPS doesn't stick around long, if the report turns up nothing. I would rather have that happen, then always wonder "what if."

You know the address and the parent's names and the description of the child... call CPS and they will investigate.

Kind of sounds it could be a set up by the child to get back at the parents. Or not. How old is the child? If the child was older than I would have some doubts but if it was a young child, I would be very concerned. You've got to go with your gut on this one...

More details would help us all not jump to conclusions. However, I have been in similar situations and the child's words to me were not the first indication that the parents mistreated the child. There were so many signs around the home and the appearance/words of the parents indicating habits of the parents which were not in the best interest of the child. Pray about it. Then go with what feels best.
