my daughter is 5months, and noticed that she's making a weird thing w/her mouth... She opens and closes it like she's chewing gum. Is it cause she's teething? She does it a couple times in a row... She looks like an old lady w/no teeth wanting to eat...IS IT NORMAL??

What can I do next?

She could be mapping her face. It is about the right age for a baby to finally make the connection that "hey, that foot moved! I think I did that... Let's see if I can do that again... I did it!! Now let's try it faster....". It is call mapping because it like the brain mapping what nerves do what.

Totally normal. Babies do all sorts of weird things, not just because they're teething or hungry, but often just because they're discovering what they can do with their bodies. She may be trying to make a sound or just simply realizing that she has a mouth and that it can move! It will all just get more and more interesting from this point on. :-)

Sounds like she's discovered her mouth. Just wait till she discovers how to climb, crawl, or walk.

Maybe she is chewing on her tongue ? Seems normal that babies find things to do, teething can be a reason too that makes her chew on her tongue.

Babies do the weirdest things in the world. :)

Even toddlers. Currently, my 17 month old thinks she ought to walk around hunched over like a little old lady...who knows why she does it...and then she'll just straighten up and run off. When she was 5 months old, her big thing was twirling her hands and feet. I swear, she'd sit through every meal and her wrists and ankles would be turning nonstop.

Very likely completely normal. MamaMay's suggestion of mapping is right on. That's exactly what babies do as they learn how use their bodies. If at some point a child develops a recurring movement that becomes habitual, then it would be good to bring to a doctor's attention. But this sounds like a baby discovering her face.

The mouth is a very sensitive part of the body.
It contains the taste buds, the gums and teeth. Babies explore all of this.
Learning to move their lips and do weird things with their tongues is all a buildup to forming patterns of speech.

Just my opinion.

too funny. My son did this too and it drove me crazy. But just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore it stopped (like so many other things!).
