Is It Adenoid Trouble or Something Else? Opinion?

Hi Mamas! Man, I love this site. :)

Anyhoo, my wonderful 4 year old DD has been pretty healthy. She averages about one ear infection a year. Fights off colds pretty easy. No tummy trouble..... Healthy. Sooooooooo about a month ago I noticed she sounded plugged in her nose like there was a whole lot of snot up in there. I'm not the kind of mom to run to the doc for every little thing so I've been monitoring it to see what happens. Anyhow, a month later and her little nose still sounds very plugged. She's breathing through her mouth all the time and a lot of times, it almost sounds like she's snoring. Yep, even awake. There's no runny nose, sneezing, coughing, fever, or complaints of a sore throat. But here we are, a month later, and the poor kid sounds plugged. I looked in the back of her throat this evening and it seems inflammed but it's not red or anything. But it's like, how on Earth is this kid getting air? I'm not a doc and probably didn't do it right.

So to my question: Do you think it's an adenoid thing? Do you think those puppies are swelled up in there? If not, do you have any other idea of what it could be? I saw online that it could be an allergy but for a month with no other symptoms? Not sure..... Oh, nothing has changed in her diet. No new foods or liquids have been introduced. AAAAAAAAAAAAAND, my sister started having problems with her tonsils & adenoids around age 5 and ended up having those puppies yanked at like 12 yrs old (docs really procrastinated on that one).

What's your take? No matter what I'm gonna call the doc and see what they think but I love you Mamas (and the occasional Daddy) and your wisdom. I want to hear from you first.

Thanks a million! :)

I would certainly have her checked, she could be developing something like a nasal septal defect or a "growth" in the maxillary or sinus area. The nose, and roof of mouth, not just the throat needs to be examined.

Both of my children have allergies and both of them have had their tonsils and adenoids out due to sleep apnea. My son had his surgery at age 3 and my daughter was only 2. Demand to see an ENT surgeon. My pediatrician told me I was basically crazy when I took my daughter in because he said he could see no problems. She was snoring and would have trouble breathing during play and she would even gag while crying. She had surgery the same week as her ENT appointment! Allergies will cause a red throat due to post nasal drip that is usually worse at night.

Only a doctor can tell you if it's adenoid trouble. A month is a long time to have difficulty breathing. Take her in ASAP.

Could be the lack of humidity in the air and allergies. I swear every time the furnace goes on my nose stuffs up. Nose drops would help also loosen the secretions in the nose. 4 Way is great safe product. I use it a lot during the day to keep moisture in my nose. I was a mouth breather as a child and my adenoids were gone. My mother refused to treat my allergies so I spent my childhood not being able to breath through my nose.

Yep, sounds like swollen adenoids to me.
Take her to an ENT to check her out.
My son had his tonsils and adenoids out at 4 yrs old when his tonsils blew up like 2 huge fleshy marbles at the back of his throat (they almost touched each other).
His were not infected (no fever) but they had become an obstruction to his breathing/eating/swallowing.
Having them out was the best thing we ever did.
