Is Baby Too Young for Zoo Trip (Outside) ?

I was thinking of taking my 4 year old and 11 week old to the zoo today because it is going to be 67 degrees (a heat wave for MN!). We would be going to the outside part, and playing at the outside park. Baby will be in stroller or in the bjorn. I am concerned about the weather (will she be warm enough?) and keeping her out of the sun (is a sun hat enough when she is in the bjorn?). Any opinions?

What can I do next?

Take her. Bring a blankie and dress her for the weather. She'll be fine and will like being able to look around at all of the new things.

enjoy.

as for warm enough, if she's snugged against you in the bjorn, you are her portable heater. (or is it the other way around?)

Bundle her up nicely and warmly. If the sun is on her then put the shade down and you can even cover that area with a blanket. I brought my daughter to the zoo last year when she was 6 weeks old and she was fine. Made sure she was not cold or too warm and it was a fun day...not that she'll remember but we've got pictures :-)

You should absolutely go! I took my twins when they were about 6 or 7 weeks old, on my older daughter's 3rd birthday, on an unseasonably warm early-December day. That was my first big outing with them by myself, but I still have great memories of it. I don't know if they smelled like "fresh meat" or what, but some of the animals that usually hide seemed to come right near us that day!!

The next time we visited the zoo was in the spring... and I totally didn't think about sunscreen... and one of the twins got sunburned shins from lying in her stroller while wearing capris! : ( So that's my only warning... to be aware if she has any skin exposed in the sunlight. But other than that.... GO, and ENJOY the day!

Go! No sunscreen (too young) but put long sleeves, pants and a hat on her. If she's in the Bjorn or the stroller has a cover she should be well protected. I don't know if it's on display yet, but there's a brand new baby snow monkey there. You can always dress her in layers and remove them as it warms up. Sometimes our babies in MN get too warm because we overdress them! I'm a Zoo member--wish I had time to see you there!

No!
I took DD to the zoo when she was 5 weeks old.
We had a great time!

Bring a blanket and a stroller (prop her up in it with more blankets, if you need) for her and she'll be fine!

I sewed some lace around a sun hat when I was taking my DD outside as a newborn. It acted as a nice little canopy to keep the sun off her, and people thought it was really cute. :) Most sunscreens say not to use before 6 months, but you can check with your pediatrician if your DD's skin doesn't seem too sensitive.

I took my oldest son to the zoo for my neices birthday party when he was about a week or two old. However, I had to worry more about the heat than the cold - It was July and we live in FL :) I say go for it!

I took my daughter with our family when she was five weeks old (November here is Tx, the weather was probably in the low 70's, upper 60's...I remember wearing light jacket sin the morning). She was fine. I dressed her in a long sleeved one piece and brought a change of clothes in case in got warmer and a blanket if it got cooler. I also used a sun hat. We had no problems at all. When she was in the stroller I kept the sunshade up. Except for searching for a decent spot to nurse, the trip was pretty uneventful.
