I used to be intrigued with the infomercials as some of the products look great....but they tend to end up being sold commerically at good ol' bed, bath and beyond. Love that store and the 20% coupons you can use.
Oh RIP Billy maise... that being said, anyone on here buy things they see "as seen on tv"??? I love how they make daily tasks so hard to do, like making spaghetti.. lol... there is a meatloaf pan i saw on tv, 2 for $20 with shipping and all the grease drains away! LOL... and I thought about buying the no-no off of HSN, but it is really expensive and does it work???
What tv items have you purchased that were flops or actually decent?
Thanks!

I have never actually bought an item from off of tv. but i LOVE LOVE LOVE watching them lol
Like you said, my favorite part is how they make simple tasks look really hard and upsetting.
I knew someone a long time ago that bought a Magic Bullet..but lets just say he didn't buy it to chop food...more to grind some other plant item o.0
Flops:
Ab Roller
The Bean (popped far too soon)
Swivel Sweeper (gunked up very quickly)
Sobakawa Pillow (can't get past the smell of it)
Decent:
Magic Bullet
I have bought several things over the years but like that stores like Walgreens sells the same things and you don't have to pay for shipping. I posted a question asking if anyone bought the "TastiWave" something like that...I was up late watching tv and of course they make this thing look like its the greatest fastest easiest thing in the world to use, but I'm always leary of things like that. Back in the day I bought the Ronco Rotisserie, you know "set it and forget it" thinking it would be so easy. Uh yeah, it was like $200 and it took HOURS to cook stuff in it. So yeah, you had to forget it...for hours! LOL! So I don't buy anything anymore unless I know someone that has it and can vouch that it works like it says it does. =)
I've never bought anything through the TV offer, but I have bought some of them when they hit retail stores. My favorite was the Magic Bullet until I broke it. Totally my fault though. And my snuggie, yes I admit it I love love love my snuggie :) Walmart sells tons of this stuff now, so if I hate it I can always return it. And I'm waiting for that meatloaf pan you mention to hit stores cuz I REALLY want one, but I won't buy it off TV.
I have bought from Infommercials (Magic Bullet, Express Ready Set Go cooker, Exercise videos) and have had luck. They are all pretty straight forward, it either worked or it was my fault that it didn't (ie, exercise videos!HAHA)
Years ago I suckered into buying the Turbo Cooker......my family still gives me a hard time about that one!
I love watching them but I don't really ever buy from them anymore. I do have the magic bullet and snuggie that I bought from a store. LOVE THEM!
That's how my husband found P90X . . . and I have to give him credit for doing really well with it.
Now other infomercial buys - i.e., how to buy real estate, etc., - NOT SO MUCH. :P
For some reason I'm highly resistant to infomercials - it's weird because in our relationship he's better with money!
PS: My mom bought me a Magic Bullet and I love it.
My Bed, Bath and Beyond store here sells items that are "as seen on TV". That is where I usually pick up stuff. I just saw a commercial for Plac Blaster for pets and wrote the number down, then saw it in the store for a penny cheaper so I bought it! LOL
Wow! Here we go!
I bought a king size double stacked aerobed before you could buy them in stores. Loved it!
I have bought Billy Blanks (back in the day VHS, original three video set), Zumba, Winsor Pilates and P90X off informercials. Love them! Thanks Guthy-Ranker!
I got ProActive and Victoria Principle's Renew line and WEN by Chaz Dean off informercial. Hated them all! Not pleasent Guthy-Ranker experiences!
My MIL got me that dog nail file drill, but I haven't tried that yet.
I LIVE, LIVE, LIVE for QVC (that's nothing BUT a 24 Hour informercial!). I've bought purses (most I hated) and multiple face/skin care/ make-up products. Some I like, some not so much. Some QVC shows (Philosophy, Laura Geller, Ojan, B. Makowski, Tignello, O'Malley) I have reminders sent to me just so I can DVR them and watch them later with no intentions of buying anything at all!
I WANT to try Cindy Crawford's skincare line (Guthy-Ranker again).
Guthy Ranker and QVC may be the death of me!
I LOVE infomercials. Seriously...LOVE them! I don't usually buy things, though. We did add the show time rotisserie and magic bullet to our wedding registry years ago. We got the rotisserie!! We really like it. The top gets too hot, is the only problem. I do have a Ronco dehydrator. I have not really used that, but I plan to bring it out in the next couple of weeks and dry some fruit for my son. I would still love to have a magic bullet.
I go to kitchen shops where the prices are not higher (shipping and handling).
I do not buy my kitchen stuff at Walmart and other junk stores because they sell the knock down model for cheap and it doesn't last.
Many of my things in the kitchen are old. I'm a very skilled cook. I never buy what they offer on TV and in truth I use few devises. A blender and a mixer are it. If it needs to be ground I do it by hand same for chopping. Learn how to use a knife and you'll never feel oppressed by cooking again.
I took two sets of classes in macrobiotic food preparation and it really changed my skills in the kitchen. You are in MASS where those kinds of classes exist. You don't have to eat macrobiotic to use the skills you learn in the class.
When something on an infomercial interests me, I first look up customer reviews, not on that company's site but on independent sites. In doing this, I've noticed that the 'get one free, just pay s&h' always turns out to be a very expensive scam/sales tactic that there is no backing out of once you've given your info. Cheaper to pay for 2 items at walmart than go through the infomercial deal, and then, like someone else said, easier to return if you don't like it.
