When I go grocery shopping I buy meat in bulk and then bag it up and put it in the freezer..pretty normal, huh? But if I touch raw meat, I have to scrub the kitchen down because the meat might have touched something or my hands touched the freezer so I could put the meat in so I had to scrub that down..not sure why I have to do that..is anyone else like that? Lol!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies...apparently it doesn't appear that I'm OCD..but maybe I should have added if I touch the meat I wash my hands and then when I touch the baggies I wash my hands and then when I put the bag in the freezer I have to wash my hands again because I might have touched the germs..and then I scrub the counter off and then I have to wash my hands again because I might of touched something..and then I have to wash the sink because I washed my hands and there might be raw meat in there...LOL! it never ends...ugh!

I don't think that's OCD, that's being conscientious about germs. I wear disposable gloves and lay down a garbage bag to open the meat container on to try and keep it from touching ANYTHING. Then I still wipe everything off with a lysol wipe. Reading that, I might be the one who is a lil excessive. :)

There is so much media attention around raw meat products that it is enough to drive anyone a bit nutty. I use the cheap plastic cutting boards from the dollar store over my wooden cutting board. They keep the bacteria from seeping into the porus wood. Then simply wash the plastic cutting board with the dishes. Put some hot water in the sink with some good dish detergent and use a dish cloth and wipe down the areas the meat may have touched. Then wipe down the freezer door handle and your are done. You don't have to go into a frenzy cleaning. Most bacteria will die once it becomes dry or after a couple of hours.
As long as you routinely keep things wiped down and pay special attention after handling raw meat and eggs you should be fine.
Remember a too clean home can lead to childhood allergies and an immune system that can't handle the simplest of germs ---- thus making your kids MORE apt to get sick.

I don't know if this qualifies for stupidly OCD. My husbnd thinks so.
My silverware drawer is always straightened. All the forks of one kind, one size sit nestled on top of one another, same with the smaller forks and the spoons.
The glasses and cups are all in line with the printing facing out.
They sit together with like patterns.
All my hangers on my closet are the same kind, my clothes are organized by season, then type, then color.
My drawers are organized by color, underwear, socks, tshirts
It really bugs me when someone puts stuff away the wrong way.

I am not a freak about washing my hands or anything. I do use Lysol wipes in the kitchen when I am working with raw meat, but I do not rub down the whole kitchen.
Ah, I guess I'm not that OCD.

The WHOLE kitchen? NO. That counter, fridge handle. That's about it.

But I do wash my hands, then wash the kitchen faucet and soap dispenser, then wash my hands again.

I think it's normal. I always wash everything up after transferring bulk meats into ziplock bags and touched stuff.

I'm with JessinTX on this one. I do wash down everything I've touched and I throw away the bags that the meat was in. There is too much danger with meat these days. And yes, my hands again after I've finished!

I'm OCD, for sure. But that's not OCD. That's just good sense.

I have OCD as part of my anxiety disorder. I'm already in therapy for depression as well as the anxiety, so I've been learning techniques to cope with it and to try to minimize it when it interferes in my life and my family's life. But with something like you're describing... if it's only scrubbing down your kitchen when you touch raw meat... that's not really OCD. That's being cautious about salmonella and other germs that could be found in raw meat and the juices.

True OCD is very difficult to live with and is very disruptive and emotionally upsetting and anxiety-inducing.

EDIT: I just saw your "so what happened" and again, I'll say that OCD is pervasive. It affects almost all areas of your life. Not just when you're handling raw meat.

A. - please don't call yourself or your actions stupid - they aren't!

A.:

Nope. not me. Have you tried doing this with gloves on? it might help you and your scrubbing.

I do scrub down after I bag my meat - chicken, beef, sausage, etc.

It's OKAY to be clean!!!

I'm pretty careful when I handle raw meat and I wash everything really well so not to contaminate anything. Plus, I train my kids with this well so they will know too. I scrub my hands immediately after touching the meat so I don't have to scrub the fridge. And I wash the sink out because of washing my hands in the sink. It only takes a minute so I don't think it's actually OCD but maybe it is. =)

I am pretty compulsive about cleaning the work area, and even wiping the handles of the freezer door etc. But do I get the mop out and clean the whole kitchen? No. So I guess it depends what you mean by "scrub the kitchen down'.'
