Is 5 Month Old Falling Behind?

My baby is 5 months, he has been rolling from side to side since he was a month old. But he still cant roll from his back to his tummy. If I put him on his tummy for tummy time, he can roll unto his back. My other two were able to roll from back to tummy when they were 4 months. I'm not really concerned, just wondering if I should be, or should I just say its normal and dont worry about it. I know all kids are different on when they learn to do things, but up until now, everything was the same with all my kids. Hubby tells me not to worry about it, the longer it takes for him to figure it out, the longer I can hold on to him, instead of chasing after him, so please any advice would be great on to what I should do, or what I could do, to help him start rolling like he is suppose to. Thankyou all.

What can I do next?

No worries. My daughter did the same. She HATED being on her tummy so if I put her there, she would roll to her back and stay. She's perfectly fine and happy!

If he doesn't like tummy time like mine, you can try rolling up a receiving blanket and putting it under his arms. It gave her enough space b/t her and the floor for her to tolerate it and she learned to roll that way. I don't remember when she rolled though.

My pediatrician always said you have to look at the whole picture. If a baby is behind on one milestone, it's not concerning. If they start getting behind on everything in one category -such as gross motor skills- that is when you start to take a closer look. I'm ure he's totally normal, as are you for being concerned. Enjoy your sweet baby!

My daughter is now three and perfectly normal, but was behind on every physical milestone. She is now the best climber on the block!
At four months, she rolled over ONCE, then at 6 months, rolled ONCE, she didn't regularly roll over until 8 months! Drove me crazy! She didn't crawl until 11 months and walked at 17 months. All the while, she started talking really early and was great with fine motor skills, just not gross motor skills. I have read (and pediatrician confirmed), is that all kids are different and concentrate on different skills at various times. My daughter can now out talk (not sure if that's good :)) and outrun many kids her age.
It's good to keep track of their skills and talk to the pediatrician with any concerns, but I wouldn't worry about the rolling right now. Easier said, than done.

Good luck!

Every child is different - both my kids HATED tummy time and would get really upset when I put them on their tummies - so I didn't. I talked to my pediatrician about it and his response "Don't worry, when they graduate H.S. they will be able to walk down the aisle and hold their heads up - even if you didn't give them tummy-time!" :)

I stopped worrying.

Good luck!
