Irregular Periods Nearly 2 Years Post-partum-- Anyone Else?

I have had very irregular periods since the birth of my daughter and am starting to consider taking some kind of action to help re-regulate. I would appreciate hearing the experiences you wise Mamas have had or any advice you'd like to share.
My period returned when my daughter was 14 months old (January '08), though we stopped night nursing when she was 10 months and were only nursing once a day at 14 months. She weaned herself at 18 months. I was still on the mini-pill in January and for about 2 months I had a period nearly every 2 weeks. Went off the mini-pill and since then my cycle has been more regular, from 23 days to 28 days but flow and PMS are erratic. I'd rather not go back on birth control pills as my husband and I are talking about having another baby and getting pregnant within 6 months or so. I wouldn't be freaked out but I just turned 37 (yuck) and don't want to consider the thought that I might be having perimenopausal symptoms. My mother's periods didn't stop until she was 60 (!) and my aunt is the same, so I never worried before. I also didn't start my period until I was nearly 15 years old. A late bloomer!
Has anyone out there had particular success feeling good and "regular" again with acupuncture, homeopathy, or vitamin supplements? I don't have a lot of money to spend on alternative therapies and remedies, so I'd appreciate your thoughts on cost too.

What can I do next?

A.,
I never had regular periods for my entire life of them(hystorectomy at 29). I still have pms however, and I take
vitamins supplements to help with that. I have seen how well they work with a co-worker also. Let me know if you are interested, and I can tell you what I take....and no, I don't sell any of them. I get them thru any local store.

A.,
Have you spoken with your provider? It's probably normal, however it is really reassuring to hear it from your MD or NP. A blood test cn determine if you are perimenopausal. when in doubt, call your physician or NP and have a conversation. It can really help.

You might want to read the book "Take Charge of Your Fertility". It has all kinds of information on cycles, getting pregnant, menopause, etc. It is very informative and might be able to answer some of your questions. I can't recall the author right now and I loaned it to a friend, so I can't check, but if you google the title it will come up. I know the mini pill really messed me up after the birth of my first child and I refused to take it after the second, but by now things should be more normal for you. If it is that bad, you may want to make an appt with your ob/gyn for a checkup and just to get your questions answered. They can also check your hormone levels and tell you if you are perimenopausal or not. Good luck.

Birth control pills can mess up your body cycle for quite some time. Mine took a year or more to get back to normal.
I would advise you to not take birth control. They cause yeast to build up in your body. With every pregnancy the yeast gets worse, and yeast gives off a toxin that can make babies be born with thrush, and autism.

I also had that same problem but my periods were irregular even before getting pregnant. I started drinking Raw whole milk (don't worry you won't gain weight, I actually lost weight). In just a couple of months I was on a normal cycle for pretty much the first time in my life. I have zero cramps now and no PMS. Also, the milk would be fantastic to replish your body and get ready to have your next kid. I have a LONG list of things that Raw milk improved for me. I drink Organic Pastures and you can get it at Nugget, Whole Foods or the Co-op.

I would recommend 5 things that helped me:
1 a GOOD multivitamin. That does NOT mean one from your doctor, a generic from a pharmacy or grocery store or walmart, etc. Get one from a health practitioner.
2. Calcium... don't know your weight, but minimum of 1000 mg per day
3. Vitex or chasteberry has been shown to have positive results in helping to correct cycle imbalances
4. Consume NOTHING white... no white flours, pastas, etc. Eveyrthing should be complex.
5. Exercise
