Irregular Periods - Phoenix,AZ

I was just wondering if this was normal.... I gave birth last July and started getting my periods again in December (after I stopped breastfeeding). They've been pretty normal until recently. One was a week early, and this last one was a week late (which freaked me out thinking I was pregnant again!). Are my hormones still balancing post- birth? It seems like it should be more regular by now. Or maybe it has nothing to do with pregnancy and I'm just going through an irregular phase.

Any thoughts? Thank you ladies!

What can I do next?

Mine was the same. I breastfed my daughter for 13 months and I didnt see my period until I had completely stopped breastfeeding for a whole month. It came 28 days after the last breastfeeding. Then I got one at 31 days and then at 46 days and then I didnt get one after that because I got pregnant. We were actually trying to get pregnant and the wonky periods were making it so difiicult but it worked out for us
Good Luck

I'd give them a little longer to self regulate. Stress and eating habits can also affect your period as well.

I'm sure someone else can give more info on how long after birth before they should be normal.

I never got back to a regular cycle between giving birth the first time & getting pregnant again. I breastfed my first for 23 months. I had light bleeding at 14 mos and 16 mos postpartum, but I don't think they were real periods. My first regular period was at 18 mos postpartum - then I had a few long cycles (30-33 days). I got pregnant again on the third cycle. So yes, it takes awhile to get back to normal. (Now, my 2nd is 13 months old, and I haven't had a period yet.)

I'd recommend charting your cycles, not necessarily to avoid or achieve pregnancy. It would just help you understand more of what your body is doing. Then you wouldn't think you were pregnant if you had a longer cycle, since you would already know when you ovulated. I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.

you could be going through a phase...i heard that it can take up to one year to get your body back to normal...especially if you are still breast feeding...

I NEVER had regular periods unless I was on the pill...so I envy women who can know when to expect theirs!! Thank God I had my hysterectomy in Feb!! Whew!! :)

I hope it's just a phase!!! Talk with your OB/GYN to see if there's something you need to get checked..
