I am desperatly trying to get pregnant with my 2nd child. We were always told we would have issues and I was blessed with a wonderful little girl and would like a sibling for her. We have been trying for the past 9 months but my cycle is very irregular and I have spent a fortune on pregnancy tests anytime I am a little late.

My cycles run anywhere from 47,27,42,35,48, and right now I am at 52 days which is the longest. I took a test when I reached 45 days but it was negative. Whenever I go past my last date, I start to feel nausous and think my breasts are swollen but then I confirm I am not pregnant(get my period)and the symptoms disappear, so I think it is just wishful thinking on my part that is making these symptoms a reality. I have tried the ovulation kits, but those are expensive and if you are irregular it is hard to gauge. I am at the point where it is getting to be a big cost.

Has anyone else experienced this or am I just crazy?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

A little history about this might help.

I have talked to my ob/gyn actually I have talked to about 5 different ones over the years. I didn't get my period until I was 17 and I have always been irregular. When I was 21 I went on the pill to regulate my cycle and was on it for 5 years. I went off it to get pregnant and my miracle was concieved 6 months later. I went back on the pill 6 months after my daughter was born for several different reasons, and went off it last year because my cycle was all messed up even on the pill. The 2 doctors I have seen want to give it time, and want to wait at least a year to see if I can conceive.

I have taken the classes for natural family planning and I have also read the book Taking charge of your fertility. We try every time all the signs point to ovulation but no baby.

I do want another baby, but I am not sure if I can go through fertility treaments. I was told very young that I may have problems so I always told myself I would be happy with one, but I do want someone else for my DD.

I can't give much advice about the getting pregnant. I didn't have any problems there. However, I can tell you how to save on the cost of pregnancy tests. Go to Dollar Tree. They sell tests for $1 a piece. Other than the very 1st test I used when I was pregnant with my dtr, they have all been accurate. For my son, it was positive within 3 days after my missed period, and with my dtr it was was positive within about 3-4 days of my missed period. The 1st negative was only 2 days before the positive. They are cheap, but accurate.

Hi, I need to throw out to you something many people either don't know about or poo-poo. I practice Natural Family Planning and it teaches you the signs of fertility. Right before you ovulate you have a lot of mucusy discharge, egg white consistency- thats to help the "swimmers" along. I would recommend keeping an eye on that rather than spending a ton of money on tests.Believe me when my husband and I wanted our 2nd we were pregnant the first try.Go to it when you first notice it and good luck!!!

I would definitely see a reproductive specialist. If you are irregular it could be a sign of perimenopause. You are born with a certain amount of eggs and you don't get any more. At a certain point you run out and don't ovulate anymore. Your best bet is to see a specialist to find out where you stand in regards to eggs . They will be able to test your FSH which will tell you . Good Luck and keep trying !

I had irregular cycles like you. I went to my OB and she told me that I didn't ovulate. I was put on clomid. Took it for 5 days. I also used over the counter ovulation kits.
9 months later my son was born.
I would check with your OB.
Good Luck to you!

Have you tried buying an ovaluation kit? My cycles were a bit off, not as much as your. I bought one when I wasn't getting pregnant after a few months of trying. The first month we used it I got pregnant. I know how you feel to keep trying and nothing. Hang in there!

What does your ob-gyn have to say about this? Since you've been trying for 9 months without success, you may be eligible for referral to an reproductive endocrinologist or fertility specialist.
