Ironing Curtains

We bought new curtains a few weeks back. I washed and ironed them before we put them up, but they still have those pesky lines from being folded in the package. It's driving me nuts. Does anyone have any tips on how to get them out?

What can I do next?

I use my scunci steamer for all such projects. It's one of those rare items that actually does what it's suppose to and works well.

try spraying Downy Wrinkle Release spray right on the line--while they are hanging up--I love this spray!! I use it every day on my uniforms I wear for work--hardly ever iron anymore!!
Good Luck---S.

I've found steam and allowing them to hang over time resolves the problem.

Rewash them then when you iron them spray some spray starch on them or iron them when they are still damp to the touch it has worked for me. mommie doo

Try ironing them again with a damp cotton towel over the creases. If they are a synthetic fabric you can put the iron up a little hotter that way. If they are more of a cotton then you can really turn up the heat and press in an up and down motion, not back and forth. Just put some weight right on the creased part. Good luck!

Does your iron have a steam clean setting? That is the only other thing I can think of.

Hi Mama JF,
I'd say try steaming them if the material content permits. I lived with my "creases" for a long time, they irritated me, but eventually went away.
Good Luck!!

Press using a damp press cloth (old rag) on top of the curtains. That way you can get the iron very hot without hurting the fabric.

Did you use starch and/or steam from your iron? I just ironed a fabric shower curtain and the steam seemed to help more...it took a bit of work, but I got the fold marks out! Good luck! C.

I'll agree with the others, steam them while they are hanging.

I bought expensive ones from JCPenneys and it said to but them in a dryer with a wet cloth or to try spraying thm with a squirt bottle and then putting them in the dryer-no heat though, just air. Then hang them up right away. Not all of them were out, but the longer they hung the more they came out.

Mama JF,

Use a steamer on the curtains. They will probably still have the lines a bit, but as they hang, they will come out. Steam them about once a week and check the results.

One type of steamer I like is the Scunci steamer.

I would steam them vs. ironing. It is quicker and easier.

Steam. Either hang them in the bathroom for a few showers, or rent/buy a small steamer (like the ones they have awailable for wedding dresses). That should do the trick. Good Luck.

Hi, you can try spray starch. Works great, especially on the thinner lacey type curtains. Good Luck!

The only thing I can think of is spraying the creases with water and hope they will hang out. Sometimes you can use a wrinkle releaser but the trick is finding something that will not mark the curtains. Are they made out of a natural fiber or synthetic. Can you iron hot enough? In time if you can ignore them they may hang out.
Best of luck,

Put vinegar on the fold lines, or wrinkles and iron dry. I used to do that and it usually worked.
