I agree--save for the phone!
What can anyone tell me about the IPOD Touch 3rd Generation 32 mb? I have always wanted something like this. Is this a good one. A friend of mine is selling hers for 100.00 is this a good price? She said she got an Iphone so she no longer needs it and that it does everything an Iphone does minus the calls and I have been dying for an Iphone. Thoughts?
I am not due for an upgrade and cannot afford an IPHONE. Someday maybe but not for at least another year or more!
I agree--save for the phone!
I wouldn't.
My kids (and myself, actually) all have ipod touches (the 4th generation). With only 8 mb. It is plenty for my needs, and really for my kids too, although my 14 yr old likes to say it isn't, because he wants to keep a variety of movies on it that eats up his space.
You actually can download aps that let you use it as a phone (so long as you are in a wi-fi accessible area)... and my son does that. You can text on it for free too, same thing, just gotta have wi-fi. So he texts with his friends when he is at home or in between classes at the karate studio, all the time. Or at the orthodontist. Wherever has wi-fi he can access.
You might also want to be aware that it is a little bit of a challenge to find accessories to fit the older versions. Not ear buds, but protective cases. Not saying you can't find one, but not likely in a b & m store---you'll end up having to order online. And I like to "touch" stuff to see how it feels, so that would NOT work for me.
If you already have internet service on your current phone plan or plan to get it, just wait and upgrade through them. That's what I would do in that scenario.
By the way, the current price on a brand new 8 mb 4th generation one, if you shop, is around $179. You have to watch, but Target often puts them on special where if you purchase, you get a $20 Target gift card or whatever. Especially when there is a "holiday" coming up that usually prompts sales (like Labor Day, Memorial Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc). Or, if you shop online and have them ship it to you, sometimes the online prices is a little cheaper than in the store. At that price point, shipping is usually free, so all it "costs" you is a few days of patience.
I think for an extra $100 you can get an 8GB 4gen iPod Touch.
I love my ipod touch. I had to upgrade a few months ago from a 1gen to the 4th gen because the headphones input didn't work anymore. It would work in one speaker sometimes, but not always. I had my 1st gen for 2yrs when that part broke. If you can't scrape together the extra $100 for a new one, I would make sure that part works. And jiggle around the cord when you do.
Also, just in case you're wondering, an 8GB is plenty. I have over 400 songs on mine, 2 audio books at over 8hrs audio each and tons of podcasts on it. I also have a 45 min video on it and lots of pictures. Plenty of room and I didn't waste my money just to have more storage.
Just get an iPhone.
More useful and especially for an adult.
You can do anything on it, AND it has... GREAT video/camera quality. Better than our digital camera. VERY convenient, if you can afford an iPhone.
My Hubby has that 4th generation or something. The most recent one.
You can also do things on it, access things online/e-mail etc.
Instead of buying the iTouch (we have that too), just get an iPhone.
It is GREAT!
No one in our house uses the iTouch now, except maybe the kids.
For games. But you can get games/apps too on the iPhone. PLUS it is a phone, and a camera and a video camera too. And the quality of the photos/video is unreal.
Don't buy the iTouch from your friend for $100.
Just get yourself your own iPhone.... .or save up for it. It is worth it.
Yes, that's a very good price. I have the same model you're talking about, and I've liked it very much. However, I really wish mine was 4th generation, which includes a camera, microphone and a better screen. (So, actually, your friend's Touch does not do everything an iPhone does minus calls, since it can't do anything requiring a camera and/or microphone, such as FaceTime or Skype.)
As to the advice to buy an 8 gb 4th generation, that might work if you don't mind spending the extra $$, but 8 gb capacity can be pretty restrictive. I have at least 20 gb worth of music, video, photos, books and apps on mine. It depends on how you plan to use it and how much "stuff" you have.
