Your wording is clear - and it sounds like fun! The only tweak I'd make would be to add quotation marks around the pajama part:
It's an American Girl "pajama" party!
Great idea!
My daughter wants to have a pajama party on a Friday night. We want to create a slumber party theme with guests in pajamas, dolls, movie, popcorn, pizza, nail polish, Etc. BUT we are not ready for a sleep over. I'm looking for some help with the invite so that its clear what it is. Let me know what you think...
It's an American Girl pajama party!
Please join us to celebrate Julia's 8th birthday!
Slumber party fun (without staying overnight).
Friday, March 8th from 6:00-9:00pm.
Address info, Etc.
*Please wear your pajamas and bring your favorite doll.
Is there a better or easier way to get the idea across to parents?

How about this edit:
It's an American Girl pajama party!
Please join us to celebrate Julia's 8th birthday!
An Evening of Slumber party-type fun (without actually staying overnight).
Friday, March 8th from 6:00-9:00pm.
Address info, Etc.
Sounds cute-I think it is clear that you're having all the fun of a slumber party without the overnight component. Not sure how young the girls are-but it might be fun to have a goodie bag with a toothbrush and wash cloth so they can freshen up before the ride home-in case they go to sleep in the car-have fun!
I have heard these type of parties called "An *almost* Slumber Party" before :-)
It sounds like a lot of fun. The only thing I would have a problem with in your invite is that not all girls have american girl dolls. and some moms might get their noses out of joint about it. I do see you say bring your favorite doll. and that helps. But it might be better to skip saying "american girl". just my thoughts.
Since they are not staying over, I would make the party a little earlier, like 4-7pm. Going to bring a kid home at 9pm is a pain in the butt. If she's too young for a sleepover, then changes are good that the kids will be getting crabby by that time of night anyway.
Also, unless you know for sure that everyone invited has an American Girl doll, either drop the "American Girl" theme or drop the "bring a doll" part.
