Does anyone have experience with their child being on Intuniv (aka Tenex)? I think it may also be called Guanfacine.

I'm specifically wanting to hear about its use for treating ADHD.

Thanks!

Back when we were working on the right cocktail, my third has layers, we tried Tenex. It did not work, not one bit, for his ADHD but did a GREAT job putting him to sleep in class. He takes it at night now to sleep. He takes Vyvanse for his ADHD.

You don't want to know the number of kids I know with ADHD, none of them have ever had it work as well as the stimulants do. I know they say it works but then they also say Straterra works and that is another epic failure.

Our son was on Tenex at the beginning. It was originally a blood pressure medication, so it's mostly supposed to be calming/sleep inducing. It did a big fat zero for our son's ADHD. We had to taper up on it to see if it would work and then taper off of it when it didn't, which wasted a whole lot of time (we're talking months). I most frequently hear Intuniv being given at night to help with sleep.

Have you tried stimulants yet? If not, that's the way to go. Stimulants have the best track record in helping with ADHD. Day one on Ritalin, our son's quality of life improved dramatically. It was a "wow!" moment. Stimulants are great in that if you hate anything about a particular brand, you can stop it immediately and move on to another one.

Ritalin is a miracle drug for our ADHD kid.

ADHD drugs speed the brain function up and suddenly the firing sync's up and the kiddo is functioning at the optimal best. If kiddo isn't on anything yet try Ritalin first.

Each medicine works differently on different kids. Unfortunately it's trial and error. We got lucky with Adderall. It was the first one we tried and it works great. But, it's not for everyone and all experiences are different. You'll just have to try it out.

I have found that individual kids react differently to different meds, and that those results can change over time as the child's body grows (both in terms of total pounds and also hormones). I don't think you can predict much of anything until/unless you try it, and even then there is a huge adjustment period. There is also a well-researched natural peptide that affects a whole lot of issues, from immune system support to inflammation to chemical imbalances (ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, depression, sensory issues). It takes less time in kids usually, but it can take a few months for some - but at least there are zero side effects and other health benefits.
