What to wear to a group cashier interview at giant eagle. I have a group interview at Giant Eagle this thursday and I do not want to be too dressy or too casual. I was thinking kahkis and a polo but i am not sure what kind of shoes i have tennis shoes but they are looking grungy and i dont wanna wear heals so flats?

Thats why i am asking this question, i do not want to over dress because it doesnt look good and i dont want to under dress because it also does not look good. I asked my boyfriends parents who are store owners and they both said khaki pants and a nice polo

What can I do next?

I'd go one step above..maybe a skirt and a nice shirt or black pants and a nice shirt. I don't think it would be too dressy. And flat (or low heel) comfortable shoes. Good luck!

I disagree on the khaki/polo ensemble. No offense but this is a look very few women can actually pull off although many many try. It is a schleppy look that says safe and I don't want to try. Also, unless you are tall and thin it is hard to wear. Polos really do not flatter women in the least IMO.

My advice would be a pair of black dress pants, black shoes, collared blouse or nice shirt, necklace or scarf.

Or very dark trouser jeans, heels, blazer with a nice tee under and necklace or scarf.

You will look polished enough to stand out but still not overdressed.

When I'm interviewing I like to see someone well put together. I think black dress pants and a nice shirt can be both dressy or in the middle. You wouldn't risk being too casual.
Good luck on your interview.

Interview attire should be one notch nicer than what you will wear on an everyday basis at that job. Don't wear a suit to a cashier interview. If the store uniform is kahkis a tshirt and tennis shoes, I would do the khaiks and plo and at flats rather than ratty tennis shoes.

I always wore a suit to an interview. Even when I was applying to a grocery store for a box boy's job.

I wore a suit when I applied for a job as a police officer. Later, after I was employed, I heard my bosses say, "He didn't have any respect for us. He didn't wear a suit." They were refering to new applicants.

I would be groomed to company policy. If the requirement is no piercings, leave all your piercings at home. If they frown on tattos. Cover them all up. How will you know? Go to the store and ask several different employees. Ask the HR people what the expected dress is to the interview. Dress accordingly. Don't wear plunging necklines.

Good luck to you and yours.

I always wear black slacks, and one of my nicer shirts, and dress flats. It shows that you care about your appearance. Better to be over dressed then under dressed right?

If you don't want to do the skirt or suit route, do dress slacks, a blouse, and modest heels. Um, no tennis shoes, please.
Better to be overdressed, in a business casual way, than under dressed.
You want to stand out from the crown while portraying your professionalism.
I always use jewelry to express my individualism :) a peace sign here or there. LOL

And I quote Sue W., "Whatever you choose, be sure your clothing fits well and makes you feel good about yourself. Most importantly, wear a smile!"

Good Luck - you'll do great !!!!!

Dressy is better than too casual. Heels are OK, as long as not too high (no more than about 2 to 21/2 inches). No to the tennis shoes.

Whatever you choose, be sure your clothing fits well and makes you feel good about yourself. Most importantly, wear a smile!

Personally, I think kahkis and a polo shirt are not appropriate for an interview of any kind. Tennis shoes/sneakers are big NO. Over dressing would be considered a business suit.

I would wear a nice pair of pants or a skirt with a nice blouse, or a casual dress. A pair of flats or sandals would be appropriate.

Remember, it's ok to over dress, it's never ok to underdress.

Good Luck!!!

Probably wear a nice blouse and dress pants with flats or nice shoes (never tennis shoes or flip flops). It's comfortable and about halfway between dressy and casual.

Personally, I'd wear my white collared blouse with my dark brown trousers and nice brown boots that have a slight heel. Little make-up with neat hair and nails. Even as an unemployed teenager I wore outfits like that just because I wanted to.

I think khakis and a polo would be fine - neat, clean, ironed, maybe tucked in if the polo does that. Another option: a knee length skirt would be fine, with an oxford shirt and flats or heals and panty hose (ye s- I hate them too, but wear them when required).

Do you have loafers? I say no to the tennis shoes.

Fix your hair and makeup and smile and make eye contact frequently in the interview.

Good luck! You'll do great.

You're supposed to dress for the job you want, so I'd dress like an owner or manager! To be taken seriously I would always dress my best. Better to be overdressed than under. I don't know the store but maybe their uniform is khakis and a polo? If you look good/presentable in better than that they will know you'll look fine dressed down as well. Present your best self! Maybe not a jacket but slacks, dressy flats or heels, and a nice blouse. A little makeup, hair back or neatly done. Especially in a group interview, you want to stand out (in a good way!) Good luck!

No tennis shoes for an interview. Ever.
Not even if you're applying for a job as a tennis coach.
:)
I don't know anything about Giant Eagle, but if you do wear khaki's, I'd pair that with a nice blouse and some nice flat shoes. I think a polo is a little too casual. You might be able to wear something like that to work in, but for an interview, you want to take it up a notch.
I think a skirt or a simple dress would be better.
Get the job and then worry about the dress code for work.
Since this is a group interview, you want to stand out a little bit in a good way.

Just my opinion.
Good luck!!!

Always got one to two levels higher than you would as an employee. It is not appropriate to wear a suit to this type of interview. Of course all the regular rules apply such as no tennis shoes or sandals, cover all tattoos and remove any piercings, conservative but styled hair and makeup and an attractive, fitted, yet conservative outfit. I would wear dark pants and a tucked in cotton blouse with flats or a modest heel.

You can't overdress! If you want this job then always dress to impress, khaki's and a polo don't do it. I think your boyfriend's parents gave you the wrong information. Even if you are going to be wearing a uniform, wear a suit or something just below a suit (slacks, blouse and heels). Set yourself apart!

I think the Khaki pants and nice shirt are probably the best idea. It does show that you care about your appearance.

My daughter just had a group interview at a local grocery store, and she was shocked to see some of the people show up in shorts! She wore black pants and a nice blouse. Yes, this is Texas, but still... shorts to an interview? (One of the people was wearing "short shorts" ...) Apparently, the ones wearing shorts did get invited to the next stage, as did my daughter.

As someone who used do hiring interviews at a big box store - definite no-nos are shorts, tennis shoes and printed shirts, also suits would be over the top. Anything in between would be acceptable, with the better end making you look more attractive to hire.

So you could be ok in khakis and polo, but could lose to someone in a button down all else being equal. Good Luck to you!
