Interested in Opinions on How to Take My Daughter with Me on Bike Rides

My DH is buying me a bike for our anniversary and we are interested in getting either a kids trailer to pull along back or a seat so that I can take our daughter with me when we ride. Any advise on which is the better option? I have heard that the trailers can tip over, but my husband is also concerned about me falling over and her having a longer fall than if she was in a trailer closer to the ground. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

We opted for a bike trailer. We splurged for a Burley brand trailer (we found it used at Once upon a Child). It had a safety feature that if I were to tip over on my bike, the trailer would stay on its wheels. We had several people tell us not to get the seat on the back of the bike (one being an ER nurse at Children's Hospital). Those are very unsafe. The trailers have a cage to protect the child from any accidents.

The seats are much more dangerous because if you wipe out your kid has much further to fall. In a trailer if you wipe out the trailer's fine (make sure you get a trailer that has that safety feature where it can't tip over).

I'm a mother of 5 & my husband & I are both avid cyclists.

We have used both. My husband prefers the bike seat since the trailer is wider and takes up more room on the road. I prefer the trailer so I don't topple over if the child falls asleep or happens to leans too far one way or the other.

We used the trailer until they got big enough to balance, and now use a tandem (part that connects where they can pedal too.) Most trailers will not tip even if you do.

I had a trailer to pull along behind and we loved it! I felt that it was pretty stable. I don't do a lot of strenuous bike riding, and I was afraid it would add too much weight for me to pull, but it was so easy to pull behind!

I was always scared to ride with a seat on behind me I felt that would make the bike apt to tip over, so I never actually tried one of those.
