I have a 5 month old baby girl and I have been thinking about getting her ears peirced. I think it looks really cute on babies but I am a little afraid to do it. I don't want to hurt her or ruin her ears. I just want to know what people think about it and if you have had bad experiences with getting it done this young.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I decided to get her ears pierced. She only cried for about 1 minute and she is doing fine. They look so cute. I went to the jewelry store not knowing yet if I was going to go through with it but after talking to the lady there, who has been doing it for about 8 years, I decided to go ahead and do it. I don't regret it yet. Her ears are doing fine and I am putting the solution on her ears 3x a day. Thanks for all the advice.

I think is a great idea, my girls had their ears piered when they were 3 months old. I personally think there is nothing wrong with it and everyone I know did the same as I. I would suggest going to a jewelry store though not walmart or kmart or something like that, I do have a few friends that the kids got infections, but one had an allergy, so that could of been the reason for that happenin. I took mine to a jewelry store, and did not have any bad experiences. They cry a little but forget about minutes afterwards. Good luck and have a great day!

I say do it now, I know you posted a reply, but it is so easy to take care of them at this age. I have done it earlier and younger, and the younger mine have been the better it has gone, there is very little care as we know it cause the younger they do it the less hair products and just overall dirt that gets on it. My 16 year old has enough piercing in her ears, the first at a few months, up until last week with her 9th in her ears (she also has a nose and eyebrow ring) and even she says that the younger she was when she got them the less pain there was and they stayed a lot cleaner, so just another thought.

There were a lot of responses to this very question on the 21st, and everyone has a different point of view, but I'll tell you what I wrote before. One of the moms, Maniqe, made a really great point, which I agree with. If I remember correctly, for her family it is a tradition to get the babies' ears pierced. She made the point that it is the same with getting tattoos in certain cultures. So, if it is a cultural tradition, or just a tradition in your family, I say go for it. Family traditions should always be passed down from generation to generation. However, I think if you are wanting to pierce your baby's ears just to make her cute, I'm sure she is gorgeous enough without earrings. She is your baby though, and as long as your husband is on board with it, go ahead. I do suggest you read the other posts on this topic from the other day. There were some really valid points, and maybe some things you may not have thought about yet.

It DOES hurt the babies. I know, I used to have to pierce their ears! Also they grab at them and pull them. I recommend not doing it.
