It's been 7 years since we've purchased our home. This year I asked my husband to put in a pool. He said let's get some estimates, info and possibly referrals from people who have actually put in a pool. Really, he wants to know whatit is we are facing-price, screening, maintenance,heating, etc.. Please help!

I'm sorry for my late respsonse to veryone. I needed to take into account all the responses and present them to the family. Guess what. We can't do it this year. A car for my son takes priority, a replacement for our air-conditioner ($4,000.) , and anything else that the family can think of has made us postpone for now. Thanks to all.

We had one done in October. We used a Better Built Pool in Cape Coral. I hardly have any maintenance, occasional vacuum and very little chemicals. We went with the salt system and we also put in solar heat.
Call around to all the pool places. You will find all kinds of prices. Make sure you actually go and look at other pools that have been put in by who ever you choose. Discount screening in Plant City is your best bet on a screen room. Privately owned, has lived in same home for years and very reliable. He does all my neighbors pool screening. We also had him recently replace some screening in our screen room. If it isn't right he will come back. My neighbor has an in ground pool and she said you can plan on spending around $100.00 a month on chemicals. Also your light bill will go up around $50.00 to $100.00 a month. That is without heat. They do not heat their pool. We have an above ground pool and our electric bill runs around $30.00 a month extra during swimming season. Also you have to consider your cost of start up chemicals. Ours for the above ground cost around $140.00 in the Spring. My neighbor said hers cost about double that for her in ground. My sister in law got a whirl pool bath tub for her pain and said it is great. No up keep at all, you clean it like a regular bath tub. Light bill only went up around $10.00 a month and she uses it at least once every day and some times two to three times a day. She loves it. Also consider pipes breaking on your in ground pool. My neighbor had to pay $200.00 just to have them find the leak. They wanted another $700.00 to fix it. Her husband is doing it himself. He has been working on it for two days now. Takes lots of time. Also consider tile instead of stone around your pool. Stone has to be redone every few years. But then tile also wears and will have to be replaced over a few years time. We looked into an in ground pool and opted for the above ground. But then I have two neighbors that have in ground pools and they are a lot more work then my above ground is. Take your time and make sure it is what you are looking for before making a purchase. My husband purchased ours for my Birthday and it is way to big for us. Both girls are grown and at college. Depending on the pool size and what your looking for, they could probabley run about 20,000.00 but I'm just guestimating. Ours was already there when we bought the house.
Have atleast 3 places come out and draw you a design of a pool that they think will work for your area, see what they come up with. Remember go with what you can afford, heating and cleaning the pool, costs extra dollars, but it's worth it.

I had my pool done by Superior Pools of Southwest Florida. They have two locations in Port Charlotte, & Fort Myers. They did our pool in less then 33 days, and the price was very competitive with all the other pool companys in the area. Starting at $25,000.00 and up, included the entire packeage with a cage as well. They have a large building area to from the Tampa area to Naples. Their work was exceptional. The Sales consultant, Linda, was more than helpful. She went over everything from start to finish & made us feel more than welcome. It is a family owned buisness, and they were all good christian people. She had the most beautiful cross in her office too. She even reccomended a church for us, since we were new to the area. All in all, it was the most pleasant experince we had while building our pool. I just want to warn you to be careful. There are a lot of pool companys that are out there that are undercutting the price, and don't have an office either. Please beware of these companys, because I have heard many horrow stories from friends, about how they got a pool started with a company, and the company took their money and are long gone. Those people were left high and dry with only a hole dug in there back yard, and that is it. So please just do your research with who ever you choose. Hi L., I actually work for a pool company in Pasco County and would be happy to share any information with you that I have. My dad has also been a plumbing and pool contractor for about thirty years so I've been around the business for a long time. The company I work for is owned by a private builder who decided he was tired of paying the crazy prices to have other pool builders come in to do pools at his new homes. A basic in ground concrete pool about 14 x 32 with pebble tec, 3' paver deck and a 1 1/2 horse hayward pump is $19,900. If you want to add a spa they usually run in the ballpark of 5 to 6 thousand additional. To heat the pool will cost about $40 per month along with the cost of the heater which is going to run around $2000. Screen enclosures or fencing is an additional charge and would be quoted based on deck size as the amount of materials would differ. Your best bet on filtration would be to use a salt water system as you use little to no chemicals in your pool which eliminates a lot of maintenance costs. When we bought our home it already had an aging inground screened in pool so I can't give you a price on installation. However when the screen gor old and the hurricanes tore them up we had to replace all the screen. That alone cost $1500.00. The frame of course was still in tact so that will be a good chunk of extra money. Pool maintance at least here in Fla. where it is hot and humid is a pain. Algae grows quickly if you don't keep the clorine up to par. Also vacuming the dirt and slime off the bottom is a lot of work unless you invest in an automatic robot type vacum. It is worth it's money in gold. Just hook it up with the pump on and it does all the work for you, even the sides. Normally if you keep the chemicals up right, you will only have to vacumn every week or two . Screening it in is worth the cost too as you don't have to hand skim the whole top of the water from falling leaves everytime the wind blows. The minute particals of dist and pollen that go through the screen, the pool filter takes care of but you do have to clean out the filter and the refuse baskets on a regular basis too as they collect the bigger stuff like leaves that family has tracked into the pool area theat ultimately blows into the water at some point. Our pool is the old rectangular concrete kind where as now adays they are fiberglass I think. Here is a site for do it your self pools, inground or above ground which gives you prices. I did one for fun just on a standard rectangular pool with bare neccesities , no screen over just a cover and it came to over $7,000.00 now add a screen and cage over it and labor for someone to install it and you are looking at probably 15-20,000. You can self install an above ground large round pool for around $3,000. My daughter did that and her husband built a deck around it. Not screened in though, only a cover. However for your health issues and the kids it would be a great thing to have and would increase your property value. Hope this helps. Here is the site I found.
