You should be fine since I'm guessing this is your six week check up. My doctor said that is the best time to do it is after having a baby.
Hi!
I just had my second baby on March 28th and am supposed to be going in tomorrow to get the Mirena IUD. I was talking to a girlfriend last night and she said that her OBGYN wouldn't let her get one inserted until she was on her period. Can anyone tell me whether or not they have gotten it inserted while not on their period...or if I should call my doctors office tomorrow and see if I should wait until I start my period?
Thanks for your help!
Okay...so I went in today and even though I wasn't on my period, my physician still went ahead with the procdure. Everything went great and pretty painless! Thanks for all of your help!!

I have heard doctors doing it either way. My friend had hers done when she was not on her period and I had mine done when I was. I think it just depends on your doctor and what he/she wants to do. Good luck!
I had a Mirena IUD and it was not inserted during my period. What is the reason for this?
I would call. The whole point of the IUD is to effect the lining of the uterus and with your period you are in middle of shedding that lining.

I had mine put in when I wasn't on my period.. didn't cause any problems.
i am thinking yes you are supposed to be on your period it has been a few years and i can remember that i was on my period.. because it caused alot of cramping..
I would call to see what your doctor says to do.
Hi C.,
I had my IUD implanted before I had a period. I gave birth in June 2007 and I went in at the end of August.
I don't want to be a downer but I feel I need to be honest about the IUD. First, I want to say I have a twin sister and she is doing great with her IUD. I just had my IUD taken out because it was causing multiple cysts. It is a side affect of the IUD but I cannot help but wonder if I had waited to have my period first, if it would have helped not cause the problem. I would maybe ask that question. My body was producing normal cysts but since I had not had a period and still had not had a period if that aided the problem. I could be totally wrong but I wanted to give you food for thought. I really wish you the best of luck with it because it was so nice not to worry about birth control pills.
I have a Mirena IUD and it was put in AFTER my first period after having my son.
I had one inserted at my four week check-up after having my second child. The doctor had me come back a week later so he could check the strings. Everything was fine and I had not had a period. I did have some problems later on that caused my doctor to remove it. I don't remember what. That was four years ago. None of it was a big deal.
You have to have it inserted within seven to ten days after you start your period. I would definitely call your doctor, in case there is some exception to that, but my guess is that they will reschedule. Good luck!
During the menses to be certain that conception has not occurred.....is the reason. Personally I wouldn't touch any IUD or pill with a ten foot pole, but that's just me. Be careful and good luck.
