My son got ahold of an ink pen this morning and thought it would be fun to color on mommy's couch while she was making breakfast. There are only about 7 marks on it, and I have no idea what to use to get it off. We have to be careful with upholstry cleaner because its red and microsuade. Don't need faded pink spots on it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to use to get it off???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies!! I appreciate all the great advice, I'm actually going to give the resolve cleaner a try. Will test it on hidden area first for sure.. I knew my kid wasn't the only one who'd ever done that.

If you're talking about ballpoint ink, milk might get it out. My husband left a ballpoint pen in his jeans pocket when he put it in the wash and milk got the ink out (much of it anyway-- it was a very concentrated spot about the size of a quarter and I worked on it for a while and could see the ink coming out into the milk, but I didn't have the patience to keep going with it). Now, whether you want milk on your couch is something to heavily consider, and I don't know how it would react with the red microsuade. Whatever you try, I'd test it in a hidden area first. Good luck!

Hey K.. I don't have microsuade furniture but when our daughter gets anything on the floor, couch, bed, rug, car seats...you get the point. I always use Simple Green. I haven't had any problems with it yet as far as fading fabric. I use it between carpet cleaning to keep the carpet spot free. Good luck!

Hi K.,

Microsuede is nylon based, so it shouldn't be difficult to get rid of the stain, it usually comes off easy, just don't rub it too much, blot with paper towel underneath instead.
I use Sol U Mel for everything, it can take shrpie form linoleum, it is amazing and since it is all naturally based, it won't damage any surface. You can only find this product through a health and wellness customer direct company though that I am a customer of. You need a membership to purchase form them.
I do love thier products so I am very happy with it. And they are less expensive than regular procuts. With 2 kids, it is really great to have the Sol U Mel around the house.
I wouldn't put water because if the spot doesn't come off, then it will be more difficult to get it off.
If you are interested on this naturally base products I would wait, otherwise I would try with shout without the rubbing (not the stick! they leave an ugly residue).
Good luck!

I'm not sure how it will work on microsuade, but Spot Shot does wonders at getting any kind of ink out of things. Just be sure to spot treat a place you can't see, first....and make sure you clean it right off, don't let it sit for more than a minute, no matter what the can says.

It took black, permanent, Sharpie marker out of our light tan carpeting!

Sorry you're dealing with this. I think every child has to marker something up at least once in his/her life!

Hi K.,

I recently had two shirts (both white) that one of my four got a hold to with a black and blue ink pen. I used alcohol to get the stains right out. I didn't believe it would work-but it did. I would suggest you use a qtip or cotton ball soaked in alcohol and try it on a small part. Hope this helps!

I used that Resolve uphlostery for multi-fabric on a permanet marker mark and it got all of it up.
I sprayed it let it set and it came right out.
I use that on a regular basis with my couch, which are micro suede and think it does a great job of "cleaning" them up and the smell refreshed.

Regardless of what you use just do a test spot.

Hairspray will get anything off of anything. Try a spot on the back to make sure it doesn't fade it but I don't think it will. Goodluck!

Whoops!
According the "Queen of Clean" book by Linda Cook, on page 68 it says, "INK- spray on hair spray or blot with rubbing alcohol. For heavy spots, try denatured alcohol. Blot well and follow with a spotter."

Well, I looked up Upholstery, too. She suggested BEFORE you start cleaning, look for the cleaning codes that may be found on the platform of the furniture. (the part that the cushion sits on).

W- clean w/ water only.
S- clean with solvents only (dry clean)
S/W- combo of solvents and water. Best to leave it to a professional.
X- rarely found on furniture anymore, usually found on drapes and blinds...it means VACUUM ONLY!!!

K., if it were me, I'd try a wee bit of hair spray, and blot lightly w/water...depending on what it says to do w/microsuede.
It could be best to buy some cleaner specifically for that fabric.
I know that hairspray works great for removing ink from cotton clothing. Spray on, let dry and wash until it's gone.
Hope this helps and good luck!
P.S. Thank Goodness it wasn't a PERMANANT MAGIC MARKER!!!!

I have had great luck with warm water on my microsuade chairs. My now 3 yr old, about a year ago, did the same thing to a chair!

Resolve carpet cleaner is also a good one.
Best to spot check before begining!
