Information About Home Schooling

I am in the preliminary stages of researching homeschooling for my daughter for next year. She will be in 2nd grade. Any information would be helpful and I would especially be interested in talking with people who do it. I am very excited about the prospect of doing it, but obviously overwhelmed and anxious about it.

What can I do next?

I may homeschool our 6 year old daughter next year as well. I would be interested in hearing what you find! We are in North Andover, but may have moved to Andover by then. Please email me if you get a chance: ____@____.com

Hi J.,

I am planning the same thing this fall with kids the same age (boy is 6, girl is 2 and a half)! I don't know if you are in Mass., but if you are, check out the "AHEM" website (Advocates for Home Education in Massachusetts) - great links and info about legal requirements for homeschoolers, social/educational networks, etc.. My husband and I started our research about a year ago and have been very inspired by educational studies coming out of Harvard (books by Howard Gardner, David Perkins) and John Holt's materials.
I'd be happy to correspond further if you are interested - let me know!

We are looking into the same thing. Our boy is kindergarten age but we're very unhappy with the public schools in our town. My husband is a SAHD and frequents the AHEM website as well. He was very inteerested in co-home-schooling with others who have different strengths - he's got the science and literature sides down, but is weaker in arts and music arenas.

Good luck and feel free to drop me a note if you want to discuss more. Christy

My sister homeschools her kids. She's in CA, so I can't help with local resources, but I know she has found tons of online resources. I know that this site is one of them:

http://www.homeschool.com/default.asp

It has a section for people who are new to homeschooling and just getting started. My sister belongs to a couple yahoo groups, too, so that might be another place to look.

Good luck!
