Info on Endometrial Ablation

I had this done. It was quite easy. I went to work the next day, had a little crampy kind of discomfort but that was it. And it helped my heavy periods very well! Good luck.

I have had one done two years ago and have not had a single period since!! I love it!! I too was having the heaving bleeding. Where are you getting it done? Who is your dr? I had mine done at St. Francis at Stop 11 & Emerson. I was a little nervous before the operation so they gave me something to calm my nerves. I remember them wheeling me into the operation room then the next thing I remember I was in recovery. The funny thing was that I was on my period before the surgery and I went home not bleeding at all. It's one of the best things I have done for myself. The recovery was great. I was cramping a little bit the day after surgery and that was it. They had given me some prescription pain meds that I took the day after but that was all I needed. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!! Relax, nothing to worry about.

I had the same procedure done a little over 2 years ago for exactly the same reason. Whoever "discovered" this procedure is a genius! Other than a little cramping a couple hours after the surgery, I haven't had a single problem. No PMS, no cramps, no period!!! Went into the hospital early in the morning, got knocked out and woke up a little groggy. Went home to sleep for a couple of hours and by mid-afternoon, I was up and around as if nothing had happened.

I had it done about 3-1/2 years ago. It was done outpatient, and I had very little trouble. I haven't had a period since. I used to have severe cramping, and don't anymore. Sometimes, I cramp a little like I'm going to start, but it doesn't last. Don't worry. If it goes as smoothly as mine, (and it should) you'll be back on your feet in a day or two and thankful you had it done. It beats having a hysterectomy, and you don't have any more periods. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I had this done last September for the same reason. Due to insurance reasons, I had to have it done in the hospital and have a DNC along with it. The recovery was not bad at all. I had it done in the morning and if I remember correctly, I was home early afternoon. As far as periods go after, December was my last period til around March and now they are VERY light and without hardly any cramping. Still the PMS though lol. Good luck to you.

I had this done within the last year. I had it done in the hospital. Last time I had something done I didn't react well to the anesthesia. I felt sick to my stomache, my blood pressure dropped and I had a hard time waking up. I told then this and they put anti nausea medicine in my iv even before the procedure started. I woke up very alert and right away. Very little pain afterwards for maybe 12 hours. I do still get a period but it only lasts about 36 hours and most of that time it's barely any bleeding. I still had problems after the procedure (I was having extra periods as well as long and heavy prior) but then I found out that I have a thyroid problem. I haven't had any problems since I got my thyroid straightened out.

I had the procedure around the May 8, 2009 at the suggestion of my OB/GYN. I have four children and agreed that the heavy, long and unpredictable periods was worth the procedure. I have had a wonderful experience with virtually no periods and an ease of PMS symptoms. I am no longer using multiple overnights throughout the day for two weeks at a time, only a pantyliner for 1-2 days a month. I had minimal cramping after the ablation, though it was difficult not to pick up my 2 and 4 y-o. I had the most difficulty recovering from the anesthesia and breathing tube than the actual procedure. I wish you well and pray your experience goes as well as mine.

I just had this procedure done in June. It has been a blessing! I haven't had a period since May, and my Dr said that about 40% never have a period again (light bleeding every once & a while), 40% have a lighter period and about 20% there is no change. I was actually very skeptical because they had already done a D&C and Laproscopy and it made things 10 times worse. This was great. I was home the same day and basically just took the day off to let the anastesia wear off. I was back at work the next day. I was a little sore for a few days, but nothing compared to the cramps I had been having. Hysterectomy's run in my family, so my Dr had told me if this didn't work then thats the route we would go. I honestly didn't care either which way, but I'm glad it worked and can be done with surgeries for a while!

I had that done 4 to 5 yrs ago and it went well for me. It was a breeze and as far as my monthly's, I only had them about every 4 months after the procedure. Now I'm 42 and haven't had my monthly since Jan, 09. I'm in perimenopause presently, I'm assuming. They say after not having your monthly for 1 yr, you are in menopause.

J., I am sure the procedure is completely justified in your case, yet just to make sure I hope you and your doctor have looked into possible thyroid issues, such as hypothyroidism, especially if in addition to menstrual problems you feel fatigued and unusually tired.

I had the thermal balloon abulation 4 years ago because of the heavy periods and clotting and cramping. The procedure takes longer to recover from than a day or two, I'd allow myself a week off of work. You will be bleeding and sore from the surgery, but by the 4 or 5th day you will feel like doing small things.
I recommend it because I felt much better and haven't had periods since.
I believe that this kept me from having a hysterectomy at that time period.
I will be having a total hysterctomy at the end of the month because of other problems, but think that you will be glad that you went thru the procedure.

I had it done about a year and a half ago and I love it, one of the best choices I have mad. I will warn you the first year it changes a lot (mine would be some spotting 1 month and other months it was like my old heavy period.) I told my doc I would give it a full year and now I am so happy I barely have one. One other thing is that it might change the color and consistency, so don't get nervous but talk to your doc about it to make sure it is ok.

I had this done about a year ago and have had no problems. I really don't have a period anymore, maybe just a spot or two once in the while and no cramps at all. I do notice that I still gain a little weight a few days a month during what would be my natural cycle but that is about it. I couldn't be happier with it. Recovery was easy and I don't remember experiencing much discomfort at all. Well worth it.

I had the Novasure Ablation on April 14, 2008 at Akron's Summa hospital. After almost a year's thought on it, it was the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. I was bloated for a couple days with slight cramping..but NOTHING compared to what I went through every month. I have yet to have another period since. I am beyond thrilled with my results and get little to no PMS each month. My husband says I still get a little crabby (lol) but not sure I believe him. The monthly bloating is minimal if there at all and I get no cramping anymore..it's heaven.
Make sure the day of your procedure, you have help at home. Since I was put to sleep for it, I was pretty groggy that day. My dh drove me home and I napped after I got home giving me time for anesthesia (sp?) to wear off. I felt much better later that day. I got to the hospital around 6:30am for my 8am procedure and we were home before noon. The procedure was really short, but I was in recovery for some time, between waking up then making sure I wasn't sick or anything.

I have personally never experienced this, but my aunt went thru the procedure a few years ago. She says it is the best thing she ever did, that the recovery was not bad, compared to what she had been experiencing for years from endometriosis. Don't know if that's much help, but hopefully can at least be a word of encouragement :)
