Infants Naps with Toddler in the House

Hi- I have two girls (2mos & 17mos). I am wondering how much sleep my baby should get during the day. It's been hard for her to fall asleep with my noisy 17 mos old running around the house. I wanted to see what other moms did with their infants. Should I put the baby up in her bassinet at certain times of the day to start a nap routine? Since she has been having a hard time sleeping in her swing or seat due to noise, I think I may have to. How much sleep during the day is needed and/or normal. At night, she sleeps from about 8p or 9p until about 6am with one feeding during the night. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

While i haven't had to deal with this yet, I will in two months when baby no. 2 arrives! Our older daughter will be 20 mo. at that point and takes one nap a day...

My plan is to put the swing either in the nursery or in my bedroom and let the baby nap in there...My daughter used to nap in her swing for HOURS! but it was out in the middle of the living room without a toddler running around and we were very quiet!

We have also, quite successfully, used a fan for white noise with our daughter since she can tend to be a a light sleeper and the house is small... I will do the same thing with the baby... put her down and consistent times, put the fan on and let her be...

A., Hi I have a small at home daycare and I have three children in the daycare one is 3months and 11months and a 2year old plus my daughter which is 16 months old. What I do is put down the infant down when she needs to go down for a nap in her packnplay or a swing. Until she is @ least about 6 months old then I will start a routine. The another children have a schedulde naps every day in there pack n plays. Which some days It does not happen but I make the best of it. Good luck LauraM :)

She should be napping 3 times a day. See if she will go back to bed after her 6 am feeding. until about 8 o'clock or put her down at 8 am. Then she should nap another two times. Around 12:30 (depending on when you put her down for her early nap) and then a late afternoon (3 naps for newborns)The first one is really just a continuation of her nighttime sleeping. Then this will go 2 naps and then around 1 it will go to one nap. But she should be sleeping around 14 hours or so. I would definitely start putting her back in her bassinet. Or rock her back to sleep for a little while.

A great book to reference is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." It covers every possible situation, plus give several options for what works best for your needs/wants.
