My daughter is 6 weeks old. She has had painful gas since she was 2 weeks old. She is breastfed and I have cut everything out of my diet that will cause gas and she still screams out in pain and has trouble pushing out the gas. I can hear her tummy bubbling all the time. I feel so helpless. I have read that probiotics can help, but they are really expensive and I am hesitant to try them. I also am not sure if I should take them or give them to her directly. I have tried gripe water and mylicon. It doesn't seem to help. Is there anything else I can do?

What can I do next?

I suggest you lay baby on her back and pedal her legs in the air likes she's riding an imaginary bicycle. That always helped my son get his toots out.

my DD wanted MOTION when she was having gas issues. I would put her in her bouncy chair and bounce her as hard as was safe for her. another mother once told me to "fold" her in half and that worked too. good luck!

My daughter also had gas and it wasn't anything I ate; it had more to do with the fact that my breastmilk came so fast and she was gulping so much that she would also get a lot of air. I tried both mylicon and gripe water- sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. My sister in law taught me to hold her in such a way that it puts pressure on her belly and helps. Basically, hold her face down and create a swing for her with your arms. Your hands should intersect right at her belly. Her neck is being supported in the crook of your elbow and your hands are providing a lot of relieving pressure on her belly. My little girl really found this soothing. Good luck!

I have been giving my little ones 3 ml of Wellements gripe water (fennel is the effective ingredient that many gripe waters don't have plus it is organic) and 3 drops of dye-free gas drops per feeding and it helped quite a bit.

Try stretching her legs out then gently pushing them up to her ears lol. Also when you burp her, massage her sides like you're giving yourself a rough breast exam...thats the only way I can describe it. Going from her hip to under her ribcage, its like forcing the gas upwards.

PB8 - it was the only probiotic that ever worked with my kids....instantly. If it didn't work 100%, then I got the kids adjusted by our chiropractor...and that took care of it.

Also, some peopel don't realize that corn is extremely hard on their little tummies, so if you've cut out all corn, you can't have most crackers or even ice cream - as most of it contain corn syrup.

How much do you burp her? My son was a very very hard burper..
Rub her belly in a clock wise motion, kinda squesse it.. (this is what my Doc showed us).. Burp her for 30 mins.. bump her on your knee or and just keep rubbing. The doc said that the burps are the painless way to get gas out, and if you get them out right away it is less painful then farting for them.. It could be someting your are eating.. also, but possibly not.

Do you give a bottle of breast milk? maybe the bottles you have are not good for her.. We had playtex and switched to avent. it took us a while to figure that out.

Good luck

Just hold her, love her, and burp her. Sometimes laying them on their tummy on your lap and just moving your legs in a vibratory way helps get some of the air out. They all cry a bit when they are that young, they dont know how to do anything else. I would just hold your little bundle as much as you can, keep her swaddled when you cant hold her.
