My 11 month old son has developed a rash on his belly from his diapers. He has sensitive skin, we had to use pampers sensitives when he was born. All other diapers gave him red irritated skin. He uses Huggies sensitive baby wash. We have to be carefull with which types of lotions we use also. Recently he has become very active in the crawling/starting to walk stage and about 3-4 weeks ago we noticed a rach on his tummy right around where his diaper starts and we assumed it was an activity/rub rash. It did slightly go away last week when we put him in huggies. I am now thinking this is an allergy type rash. We hate the way huggies fit his body and they seem so bulky compared to the pampers cruisers we have been using. Has anyone needed to switch because of a skin sensitivity and what brand did you use? It seems like I am having a hard time finding anything for sensitive skin.
One year later and we have switched to huggies natural diapers cause everything else still gives him a rash. It truly is an allergy of some type and we seem to have it under control and will be potty training soon. Again thanks for all the helpful advice.
My kids also had a sensitivity to Pampers diapers. I started using LUVS diapers and I never had a problem again, plus they aren't as expensive. Hope this helps.
I would try not using any lotions. That may help.
I had to switch to Huggies too. They seemed to be the only ones that didn't give a rash, fit well, and didn't leak. I tried everything. I'm glad it all worked out for you. I have to watch what kind of soap, bubble bath, lotions too. Good luck with potty training!
Have you tried cloth diapers? You can get a sample pack at Jillian's Drawers . com, and if you return all the diapers the program fee is only like 10 bucks plus shipping. You get 10 or so brand new cloth diapers of different brands and styles, you wash them, and can try them for 21 days. At the end of 21 days of usage, you return what you want, keep what you want, and they credit you back appropriately. You can then buy previous sampled diapers (clean, but used for the 21 days) of the style you like, at a slight discount from brand new. I'd say try that or go see a naturopathic allergist, they dont' do prick tests or give you the run around. Good luck!
Several of our children have only been able to tolerate Huggies, or would get bleeding rash on their bottoms. Our midwife said we are not the only family that had mentioned this to her about other diapers bothering, but Huggies being ok. Best wishes.
at 6 months my baby developed an allergy rash at her hips and butt where the diapers touched her. I tried some natural/organic type paper diapers but they weren't any better so I ended up using cloth diapers. The cloth diapers have been very easy on her skin. But diapering does take a lot more work- the washing, folding and even just the putting on.
The good news is- these cloth diapers almost never leak.

My kids have very sensitive skin also and I have found the combo of the Huggies diapers and the Pampers sensitive wipes does the trick. Also I use Aquaphor to help clear up the rash.
I have had some really good luck with a certain group of products that I have used for this type of issue. In fact, everyone that has tried this has been so impressed with how this worked for them! First of all, if you bath you child in the first product, then put a little of the lotion on afterwards, within 3 days the rash will be gone. These products are safe, green and can save you money. You could try cloth diapers...we switched due to skin sensitivities and diaper rashes and love it! It's actually not that much extra work. There are so many brands out there and we chose an all-in-one brand that hooks closed just like a disposable diaper (very daycare or grandparent-friendly)..then instead of throwing them in the trash..we just throw them in a different "trash" can and wash them each night (or every 2 nights). We attached a sprayer to the toilet to blast off all of the poop (and to eliminate us having to dunk them). In addition to eliminating her diaper rash issues, we are also saving a lot of money in the long run and being "green". Good luck with whatever you choose!
I have found that kids are very sensitive to Pampers diapers - I think probably because of their scent that irrates their new skin. My 16 month turned red in the hospital from wearing Pampers and we just use the Huggies natural fit. We like these the best, plus the Huggies natural care baby wipes. Good luck!

my baby is the same age/months and I've been noticing rash on the back (where diaper is) and between legs..... I changed diapers brand, pampers are the worst, Huggies don't work either, the best brand for my son is Target brand......... Target brand is even bigger (although the same size as others).... anyway, my sister just order for me/my son cloth diapers and I will try with that.
I know to put cotton pad under the diaper during the night and in the morning his skin looks as baby skin should look, soft and clean, no redness.
I hate to think it's allergy, and it is not so bad all the time, but I can not ignore it anymore. As they say - using cloth diaper help kids get potty trained easier and quicker - hope for that.

I have heard of this problem before with a diagnosis of yeast infection. I know it sounds weird but you can get a yeast infection anywhere on your body that is exposed to excess moisture. Also, I would switch to organic baby wash and lotions. "All Natural" and "Gentle Care" does NOT mean that it doesn't contain products that are irritants. Alcohol being one of them, it dries out the skin and it's in everything. Organic is the only sure way to know exactly what you are putting on your baby's skin.
My daughter also has very sensitive skin. We mostly use cloth diapers (I love them!), but also have chlorine-free disposables for daycare. We've only had luck with Seventh Generation (in a green package, available at Babies R Us, and more expensive at Whole Foods and co-ops). She also seems to have a reaction to elastic in clothing, so we ALWAYS put a onesie on for under the waistband of her pants. Last thing, if you're little guy is sensitive to lotions, too, we use California Baby Sensitive Skin lotion on our baby. Everything else we've tried has caused some level of reaction. It's fairly expensive, but has been worth it. It's similarly priced at Target and Whole Foods. Good luck!

It may not be a diaper rash...my son had the same thing and it would come and go, I was at a loss. My ped said it was a nickel allergy from the snap on his pants/jeans. If Maddox wears pants with a snap try having him wear sweat pants or pants without a snap for a few days and it should clear up. My mother-in-law said to put clear nail polish on the snap...that helped, so he can wear those pants with snaps again. I hope this helps!
We use Huggies as well. My oldest had sensitve skin and I just stuck with them for the other two. Yo could also try seventh generation. I think they are organic diapers, but more spendy.
Hmmm... my daughter hasn't had any trouble with Pampers, but the cheap diapers irritated her. I agree with you about the fit of Huggies - I tried one pkg of them, and every single diaper leaked!
Maybe his clothes are rubbing now that he's moving around more? You could try using a laundry detergent without any harsh chemicals and a baby wash and lotion that are also formulated to be gentle on babies' skin. I have some amazing products that I use from one online wellness company. They aren't available in stores, but if you're interested I could get you the info. Just let me know.
our son is in cloth diapers as well and i will swear by it. the chemicals used to make disposables and toxins that are on their skin, especially for a sensitive baby, the rash may not go away. if you look into cloth diapering there are sooooooo many options to make it easier. cloth diapering has come a long way since our mothers did it. thats not to say there isn't a lot of laundry...that doesn't get better. but we use a diaper service and have found it to actually be cheaper than disposables and the hard work is done for us! all we do is put the diaper in the bin and send it off once a week and the diaper fairy leaves fresh diapers on our porch! its far more affordable than i assumed! and so much better for baby! good luck! hope you find something that works for you!
Have you considered putting him in cloth diapers. If you use a detergent like Allen's Naturally it is completely free of anything that could irritate his sensitive skin. All disposables have chemicals in them. Since Huggies work but you don't like the fit you'd only have to deal with it while traveling.
Have your son tested for food allergies or intolerances. Your son is allergic to something. Could be the diapers; have you tried cloth? If he also gets the rash with cloth diapers, then you know without a doubt that you need to look into food allergies/intolerances.
One thing that's amazing for treating rashes is coconut oil. It smells good too! We use the Huggies Organic diapers and I don't feel they are bulky at all copared to what we use during the day: cloth diapers! Hope you figure this out. Something else to consider would be diet. A lot of diaper rashes are actually caused by food insensitivities. Fun I know!

My son had outbreaks of belly, inner thigh and back rashes where the diapers would ride on his skin, especially when we used the national brands. Before 2 yrs old we used brands like Target and such during the day because his urine volume wasn't enough to warrant the heavy soaking kinds and thus we found was also less irritating. At night we would use the national brands but used lots of Aveeno or generic Aveeno like skin protectants. The rashed were of no concern for the Dr.'s then or now but his skin is still sensitive. We changed detergents, soaps, and even installed a new water softener and filter in the basement for all water in the house. All is well now, and he just turned 4.
My little guy has pretty sensitive skin, too. Our doctor advised us to rub Eucerin on his skin all over his diaper area -- she said it helps protect the skin, like Aquaphor or A&D ointment, but it's not quite as greasy. It has worked pretty well for us!
