I have a 3 month old who is too big for the baby bathtub ontop of the kitchen counter - but my back is killing me when I try to give him a bath in the big tub. I tried sitting him up in the kitchen sink, but that doesn't work too well either (it's a double sided sink). Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for all the feedback! So far the idea about putting a towel at the bottom of our kitchen sink has been a good solution. Once he gets a little bigger - I'm going to try the "storage bin" idea, that way I can sit it on top of the kitchen table. Using my husband doesn't help, his back is worse than mine! I don't like baths myself, but I like the idea of showering with him, but the slipperiness makes me nervous. The "pods" or "buckets" also seem like a good idea, but I'll try those as a last resort. Things will be a lot easier once he's sitting up on his own too. I know that babies don't need baths that often, but he has a full head of long thick hair that NEEDS to be washed about every 2-3 days or it's just greasy and smells. :)

I feel ya...my son was over 10lbs and 23 inches long when he was born. We used a big round toy bin/bucket, the kind with rope handles that you can get at target/fred meyer etc.

Actually, my son loved the water so much that once he could sit up, he used to splash around in there, while I drug it from room to room cleaning. I just added warm water as necessary.

Boy did I feel trapped once he got too big for THAT. I have to stay in one room??? Really???????? Argh.

Perhaps getting in the tub with him. Then you won't be leaning over the edge trying to hold on to him.

When my 2 kids got to this stage, my husband or I would take showers with them.

Isn't it fun to have babies again??? --- My oldest was 11 when my '''baby''' was born - .

2 ideas --- I used to give my babies a ''''' bum bath'''' ---take off diaper--- hold sweet little bum under the faucet and let warm water rinse off ---then let 'em air dry--- it's quick -easy on the back- and really is good for their skin ( I have my doubts about all the babies who seem to have 19million wipes with odd ''stuff'' -- on and --- anyway--- I'm a dinosaur--what can I tall you??

The other thing is that I put a towell in the sink - so they were sitting on a non-skid surface---

Blessings, S.- enjoy every minute

HI S.,
Our little boy is 19 months old and we put him in an 18 gallon rubbermaid tote when he got to be too big for his baby bath tub. He is still using it today and is quite happy when he is surrounded by the bubbles and his toys. We put him in when he could sit up on his own without too much help. Give that a try. It works for us and we aren't filling the whole bathtub full of water.

Do you have one of those Big Laundry room Sinks? I used to use that with my son when he out grew his baby tub. But other than that the only thing to do is to give him a bath in the big tub total Back killer but your options are limited at this point.

I got one of those yellow foam bathing bears. Lay it in the tub propping the head a little with a folded towel and fill the tub only enough that most of baby is in water, but her head is not. You just have to watch to make sure she doesn't turn her face into the water, but other than that, you can just sit and watch her splash up a storm. When you are ready to wash, it is very easy to rub her down head to toe and a quick rinse with a cup scooping up the water. If you find she gets too cold this way, you can lay a wash cloth over her tummy and periodically pour the water onto the cloth.

Once she starts rolling over a lot, you can get an inflatable tub that goes inside your tub. We used the yellow duck one and it worked well.

well I don't know if this well help you.
I use to put my kids in the bath tub with me.
I would take the car sit or something safe that I could
sit them in while I got into the tub or if your husband is home have him help you. get into tub, you bath
at the end of your bath bring in baby, have something if you need, I would play nice clam music, and take to your baby, it's not as if you have to be in a long time.
after your done warp up in a towel that you have already put into the sit and get out, it worked for me.
I always felt that it was a closes time with my baby and me
and I think it made them feel safe being in the water with mom and knowing I was there, all my kids love the water and are very good swimmer's. My son I can't get him out of the ocean he love's to surf.

The easiest way and most fun is to have a bath with your baby. This way the baby is safely held by you and you both have a wonderful time and it's pretty easy to get the baby all clean and keep them warm and safe. We did this with our daughter for 1.5 years and it was so much better than any other way.

I showered with my daughter from day 1, as she hated baths and would scream histaricly the whole time. They are slippery, but once you are comfortable with it and they grow a little you can lay them in the bottom of the bath and even get clean yourself.

I always took my daughter into the shower with me. After her 1st in home bath my back hurt so much, i didn't try it again. My mom said that she always just showered with us, so that is what I did and it worked great!

I just had my daughter secured in her bouncer next to the tub, then when I was finished showering, I'd grab her and then wash her, and we'd finish together! We still shower together and she is now 2 1/2. (she also take baths now, but they are mainly for play!)

Two suggestions, I agree with Nicole on taking him in the shower with either your husband or you, it is easier if one of you is around to hand him out to so you can finish your shower. Oh and they are slippery little devils when lathered up so make sure you have a good hold on him. The other suggestion is to let your husband give him a bath.

We used a baby bathtub that had a tilted back and a little ledge thing in the bottom, so the baby is supported in a reclining position and doesn't slide. I think it was by Fisher Price or something, you see them at Babys R Us. It comes with a hammock type thing until they're too heavy for it (first couple of months). We had that on the counter for quite a while. Then we moved it into the big bathtub, and I kneeled over. Now he's 2 1/2, and I still use a bigger baby bathtub, from Ikea, inside the big bathtub. I sit on the stool that he uses to reach the sink.
good luck.

Get in the bath with him. That is how I bathed all of my kids until they could sit up.

Kind of a strange idea, but my Bestfriend who has a terrible back problem, came up with the idea.
She put down a towel on table, got a bin (storage one) i think under the bed size so still shallow and one of those bath seats they lay on (looks kind of like a boucner without seatbelt) and used that until he was like 2, he loved it.
