We painted a plate with my child's footprint on it and well wishes. We went to a pottery place but I know you get plates that can be decorated at home.
Hi ladies,
My husband's birthday is coming up soon and we've got a 4 1/2 month old boy. I'm looking for some cute ideas that my son can "give" to his father. I'm about to go back to work and my hubby will be watching the baby most days, so maybe something that the two of them can do together. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

A book of coupons. Example. good for one afternoon loafing in front of the t.v.
Or, matching tshirts
Take lots of pictures of them together and take in your camera to somewhere like WalMart and you can create all kinds of gifts. They range from cheesy to pretty cool options for gifts. You can make a mug out of your favorite picture of them together and on the mug it says something like "My Daddy is my Hero". Cheesy yes, but he'll never forget it :)
Here is the website for WalMart Photo Gift Ideas so you can get that creative mind going :)

Good Luck!!!
"before i go" by Peter Kreeft--letters to our children is a great read and great lesson book for any parent. Every household need this on the bookshelf.
"Ten Conversations You Must Have with Your Children" by Schmoley Boteach (minus the last chapter which was a one-sided view)
Is there a zoo or museum nearby that charges admission? If so, maybe a membership there. The zoo near us would allow your son in for free until he is 2, and I single membership is only about $30. Going there was a God send when our son was little, and was something that we really enjoyed.
What about making him something with your son's face on it? These items can be pricey, but occasionally, someone will have a deal on them.
Hope this helps!
Does your husband drink coffee?? My parents went to Starbucks and got my husband a coffee (my brain is dying here, sorry) thing to take in the car! They took pictures of my kids, him, me and put them on a sheet of paper and then put them in the coffee holder. He loves it.
I have seen on line before and know this book is available in the USA which would be great.
A manual written for men on a baby.
Basically written like a car manual so describes 'oil changes' - nappy changes
'fuel consumption' - feeding ideas and schedule.
If he is into cars or has a sense of humor he will enjoy.
Sorry but I do not remember the name but you may find it on google.
Good luck with the search.
My husbands b-day was 4 months after our second was born. We dipped their feet and hands in paint and put them on a t-shirt. He loved it. He wore it until it wore out. We now update with new shirts for different holidays (b-day, fathers day,ect...) and to add the now five kids that we have.

My best birthday present was almost 4 years when my son was born the day before my birthday.
The second best was a "card" that the day care provider made for me for my birthday 2 years later. Two days earlier, I'd been diagnosed with cancer. It was the 2nd week of our kids being in day care, and one of the teachers dipped our 11 week old daughter's feet in paint and basically made a card to look like a butterfly with finger prints, etc. I'm sure it was messy, but I love it. They laminated it, and it's never moved from its spot on the refrigerator almost 2 years later.
For my husbands first Fathers day my son gave daddy baseball goves for the both of them and a soft ball.
A couple of ideas:
-take your son to a pottery shop and they can help you make a plate using his feet prints (they don't do hand prints until the child is older).
-have a professional picture taken and give daddy a frame pic of his favorite little guy in a Daddy outfit, favorite sports team jersey, etc.
- for something for them to DO together, what about a membership somewhere? Some ideas: the zoo, a parent/child swim class (usually start at 6 mos), etc.
- what about tickets to an upcoming baseball game? Either your husband's favorite team or a minor league game? (We do this on/near Father's Day with our family. It's been a nice tradition that plays off the father-son baseball theme.) For THIS birthday you could give your husband a baby/toddler mitt with a velcro ball...we got ours at a toy store. Then you can use the same theme for Father's Day and include Grandpa!
I hope those ideas help.
