Hi there - planning my first birthday party for my turning 4 years old daughter. Previously, we've just done family outings. We have a small house so our place is out of the question. She has 19 children in her preschool class and we feel like we need to invite the entire class since she's been invited to so many parties - plus a handful of friends from her old school. Problem is we dont really want to spend $400 for a party for a 4 yo if we dont have to. She's a girly girl who loves to paint. Any ideas? Have looked at Pump It Up (going to 2 parties there over the next couple of weeks), MOCHA (parties are for 12 kids), play cafes, etc... Since her birthday is in March, I feel we need an indoor locate (otherwise I would do the park or the zoo or fairyland).

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. We considered having a few friends to the house, to inviting all her friends to the park. Since her party was mid-March, I was hesitant about doing the park as the weather can still be iffy. Anyhow, after considering the options we decided on MOCHA - but only invited 5-6 friends from her current school and 4-5 friends from her old school - keeping with the pkg constraints of 12. It was perfect. Some of the crafts didn't go over well, but the kids LOVED the play house and the paint wall. We lucked out with a nice day, so the kids also ran around the courtyard area for a bit. I would greatly recommend MOCHA. Making the reservation was easy

you could also look into renting a room at a community center or local park (e.g. clubhouse at Arlington Park in El Cerrito) - then if the weather's nice the kids can play outside too!
facility rental info for El Cerrito parks and clubhouses at this site http://www.el-cerrito.org/services/pdf/rentals09-10.pdf. I know that when my kids attended Mustard Seed Preschool/Berkeley Covenant church in North Berkeley (near Monterey Market & King Middle school), the social hall was available to rent for things like kids birthday parties so that might be worth checking out too if it's a convenient location for you.

Try SUPER FRANKS ( www.superfranks.com )in Pleasanton. We had my sons 3yr bday party there. They have various rooms you can reserve. They also have a Princess Room where the kids have a Tea Party and dress up like princess,etc... Awesome room... the facility is indoors and has a bunch of video games... its like an upscale chuckie cheese becuase they have games and pizza... but they also have a Starbucks in there and they serve other food as well... we go there a lot when its rainy... good prices, very clean... and the kids love it.

Hi!

Gymboree Play and Music does parties for 4 year olds but the limit is 20 children. If you thought that you could be in that limit the cost of the parties at our sites is $250. Food is very limited too so that makes it easy on you. There are sites in Oakland and El Cerrito. See www.gymboreeclasses.com for more info or contact me at ____@____.com luck in whatever you choose to do!

My 5 year old went to a birthday party at Kids n clay (http://www.kidsnclay.com/) and had a blast. We've also really enjoyed parties at the local YMCA. We live near the Albany YMCA where we've attended parties. I'm sure that one of the YMCAs closer to your neighborhood would have similar plans.
