I recommend Warren Dunes too, just went a few weeks back and very nice. there's even a snack bar on the beach. Bathrooms nearby and plenty of parking. I went with five kids ages 8 down to a baby. It all went well.
I'm thinking about going to the Indiana Dunes with my three kids, ages 6,4 & 2. I have never been to the dunes, so any info would be great. What is the best spot to go to? Is it fun to bring a 2 year old or just a big pain? He still naps, but if he sleeps in the car I can deal with it. I want to do something fun this summer with my little ones before it's over!

If you are going to the public beach you park in a lot that is way far away from the beach. You actually walk down a big ramp, so if you are bringing lots of stuff, bring some kind of cart to haul it.
There is not much food (if any, I can't remember this part) available at the beach for purchase, so you will need to pack all that.
We actually drive longer to go to the Warren Dunes in Michigan. We like that beach better for many reasons, one being the beach is lots closer to the parking!
Hi Tricia,
I have been doing the dunes for years now, but we have family in the private part of the beach, I'm not super familiar with the public area or, sadly, even the restaurants as dh's aunt is the best hostess around.
But that side of the lake is calmer. I've been bringing kids to the beach every time I go and it is worth it, but you know your kid better than I. I'd say skip Mount Baldy with the little one, that's a super cool hike, or rather super hot lol. But what a view!
I'd say plan to get there around 2 so you miss the heat & can watch the sun set, it's simply gorgeous over the lake. :)
Have fun!
D.
