WOW... that is embarassing.
I think, if you didn't know he was coming, you should DEFINITELY call. Just let them know you need notice. But also, leave the bolt on now that you know.
Ok, so here it goes. The most embarrassing thing happened to me today and when I think about it I dont know if I should be mad or just let it go. The kids and I were taking a nap and because I got Motrin on my shirt before we took I nap I just took it off and I didnt have a bra on so I had pajama pants and NOTHING on top. Well, I thought we might sleep a long time because we are all sick, so I left the bolt lock open and the bottom one locked so when my husband came home from work he could just let himself in. We live in an apartment. Well, both kids were still asleep and I woke up and was headed to the kitchen when I see the maintenance man in my kitchen messing with the sink. So he sees me topless and I run back to the bedroom to put a shirt on and when I go back he is gone. I was in the bedroom for like 30 seconds, he must have ran out the door. So, now what do I do. I dont know why he was in the apartment (we did not put in a work order) and I dont ever want to see him again although he is a very nice guy. I dont know how my husband will feel about it either. So, what do I do now? Call the office, let it go, tell my husband and hopefully have a good laugh about it? Yikes...
OK,this is what happened when my hubby came home. He told me that he had made a work order to figure out why we sometimes dont have any hot water, and he just forgot to tell me. He was not mad and thought it was really funny. The maintenance man did knock on the door and holler that he was in the apartment but I just didnt hear it because I forgot to turn the white noise machine off after my son fell asleep, so all in all it was my fault. Oh well, I guess it will be something funny to tell friends when they come for dinner!
WOW... that is embarassing.
I think, if you didn't know he was coming, you should DEFINITELY call. Just let them know you need notice. But also, leave the bolt on now that you know.
Call the office to see if he had a reason to be in there. If he did, then have a laugh about it. If he didn't, then the office needs to do something about it.
Maybe he was supposed to be in there, & you didn't hear him knock. It could be a legitimate mistake. Poor guy if it was. He was probably freaked out, too! (not by you, but by not realizing the tennant still being in the apt.)
I would definitely call the office to make sure he had a legitimate reason for being in your apartment. Hopefully he did. But if he didn't, then they need to know about it. How scary! For you and your kids. Maybe he knocked and since you were all sleeping, you didn't hear it?
Hopefully it will all works itself out, but better to be safe than sorry!
yasmyn..i am pretty sure this is not the first time this has happened to him and i am sure it is not the last. i have to say i do the same thing, shower and blow dry in the nude and leave the door open for hubby. wow, now i will think twice. LOL! i would just let this go and now you will have a humorous story to share with your gal pals. LOL! :D
I would call the office and see why he was in your apt to begin with, if you did not put a work order what was he doing there
Oh Y.! I'm so sorry. I know how you must feel. This happened to me before I was married and lived in an apartment. I had just finished taking a shower, and usually blow dry my hair in the nude b/c I have a lot of hair and I get very hot from the blow dryer.
So when I was done, I walked into my kitchen COMPLETELY naked for a bottled water only to find myslef staring like a deer caught in headlights at the maintenance man. I was too embarrassed to even scream. I just said,"oops", and turned back into my bedroom. I waited until I heard the front door close to go back out.
These things happen when living in an apartment complex. I'm sure the maintenance guy was just as embarrassed as you were.
I wouldn't make a complaint. Perhaps he was supposed to be fixing the sink in the neighbors apartment and someone wrote down the wrong apartment number. There could be a number of reasons why he was in there.
Life with kids is hard enough as it is so you have to pick your battles. This is just one of those things that you can either make a big stink out of, or laugh it off. And if it were me(and it has been), I would laugh it off. I am in sync with Cara.
Just know that this has happened plenty of times and its one of the "unfortunates" of living in an apartment. At least you had your bottoms on! :)
This reminds me a little bit of my sisters incident at her apartment complex. She eventually had to make a complaint because the neighbor across from her(her blcaony faced the neighbors balcony) was forever doing yoga in the nude every evening. The woman didn't even have the decency to close her blinds and my sister was sick of having her dinner with a derranged naked (and hairy) woman in the background...:)
Exactly. Let it go.
but why was he in your place? you need to check into that. That is WEIRD! He should have knocked and rang the bell if you have one. I can't belive he came in w/o a work order.
Wear a tshirt to bed mama. ;)
Ok I just had to respond..
LMAO
omg you go girl .. get over it .. believe it or not i'm sure this has happened to others omg to funny.
Take care and next time put a shirt on.. hehehee!!!
I would have been on the phone IMMEDIATELY. There was a man in your home, without your permission or knowledge, and while you were there with your children sleeping in the other room for God's sake. Definately tell your husband. Why would you not? Who cares if the guy saw you nude, he needs to know to not EVER enter your apartment without your consent. That complex would have a peice of my mind.
I agree I would call the office, you think he would have at least knocked or wondered why the door was unlocked? Most places have to have your permission to enter.
I would also tell your husband. I know my husband would think it was hysterical. I know it's embarassing but I hope you can laugh about it later! I know I would be mortified, but I tend to do things to embarass myself on a routine basis so I'm used to it!
Cheer up at least you were in your own house and you didn't lose your shirt in front of a crowd!
Wolfgang, you are such a funny, funny man - LOL
It's times like these that I wish we had pictures posted so I could put faces with such memorable responses!
Y. - that does sound so embarassing! I guess I would be a bit concerned, however, if you weren't expecting someone to be in the apt. The only thing I could think of is maybe someone across the hall was having some issues like clogged drains and somehow your pipes and theirs are connected. I know years ago while in college, the chick across the hall from my apt. would dump grease down her sink which ended backing us both up, so the maintenance did have to work out of both of our units.
As far as my husband, I'm all for honesty but this may be one of those things I'd keep to myself and mamasource! :-)
I would complain that they didn't knock or anything! I used to live in some apartments on Ella/1960 and on 3 occasions I woke up to people talking and making noise in my kitchen. It was the maintenance people installing new things or checking something without me even knowing about it. I hated it! One time I was asleep and someone started knocking on my bedroom door ( I started sleeping with the door locked). It was the maintenance guy with one of the managers. They said they were there to take pictures of all the rooms, to put in file.
I moved out as soon as the lease was over.
I'd personally be furious that the maintenance man LET HIMSELF IN to my apt. without consent... esp. with you and the children sleeping! I think you should call the office immediately to inquire and put in my complaint.
Dear Y.:
Forget about the maintenance man: Think about what goes through your hubby's head when he comes home to a topless wife on the couch and a plumber's crack in the kitchen...
You may want to tell your hubby this same story and hope he buys it. If you don't tell him, he'll fill in the gaps for himself, and it may not be in your favor.
Regards,
W.
He cannot go into your apt without your permisssion! you probably need to call the office and see why he was in there! not only that he should have knocked and woke you up!
OMG OMG OMG! I would be rasing hell. We had this problem when we lived at a town home (apartment like setting) community. They are supossed to ring the door bell and wait for atleast 2 mins before entering. And first of all they are supossed to notify you in writing if they are needing to enter your apartment for any scheduled apartment checks. And if you did not have any work orders in then they should not be in your aprtment with out your knowledge. It is still your home and you have rights as renter. It doesn't matter if he is nice or not they are supossed to ring the bell and wait, then when they walk in announce they are coming in. My mother in law had a similar situation happen. She was in her night shirt on a Saturday afternoon and came downstairs to find a maintenance guy in the kitchen. My father in law ran down stairs and chewed that guy a new one. Just think if you weren't home and never knew he was in there. Wouldn't you want to know whay someone is in your home? I was def call the office and report it.
I would be calling to find out why he was in my house. He should have knocked, rang the bell, and loudly announced himself coming in.
You better tell your husband in case the guy reports it too, just so it isn't like you are hiding something.
Try to laugh about it...but definitely find out why he was in your apartment...that is scary!
Good Luck
I would definitely call the apartment and find out why he was in your apartment. There may have been a water leak or something that needed immediate attention, but they are supposed to call all contact numbers and leave messages if no one answers saying that they are planning to enter your apartment for an emergency reason only. They also are supposed to knock and give plenty of time for whoever might be home to answer. You should definitely find out what he was doing, but you don't have to tell anyone he saw you topless. Most likely, he is not going to mention it to anyone either.
I can see how you might feel a little embarrassed, but it's your house and if he didn't even say--HELLO THE MAINTAINANCE MAN IS HERE when he walked in (which he should have knocked) then he deserves to see whatever is put in front of him---in YOUR house! I am laughing as I write this. My hubby would laugh til he was blue if it had happened to me. I bet yours will react the same way. Have a good rest of the day and remember--if you do see him again---just smile and wave real big like it didn't even bother you! :)
I wouldnt think the maintenance man should be in your apartment without your knowledge or permission. I would definantly be checking as to why he was there. I would also have a lock on the inside of the door so that nobody can get in without your permission. If apartment employees are allowed to enter your apartment any time they choose, I would be moving
this could be scarey if you had not requested the maintainence man to your home; first, i would find out exactly why he was there. yes, do tell your husband; you did nothing wrong ( maybe you could keep a shirt on, little kids notice everything ) but the hubby needs to be aware of this in case there is a problem in the future.
absolutely call the office, then tell your husband and then let it go :)
good luck! sheesh...
