Is this puberty or what?? My 11 yr. old is sleeping so much now. Isn't it a little early in the puberty cycle for that?

What can I do next?

Puberty doesn't just happen over night. This is the beginning of puberty, and since it's summer and he can sleep more, he is taking advantage :)

Normal, normal, normal.

Mine began sleeping more at about that age.
At 15 it has evened out some, but I find that on weekends and holidays he can sleep up to 12 or 14 hours straight.

He is growing.. His brain and his body.. Measure his height this afternoon. then 2 weeks after school starts. Measure him a month after school starts. .. You will be amazed..

Also get ready for him to be starving all of the time..

Very normal..

Major growth spurt.
It's totally normal.
Some start earlier than others, and some start a little later.
You might expect some growing pains too, if he shoots up in height rapidly.

No, not too early. Puberty growth spurt could be coming,. Also, it's summertime. If kids are not in school, they may be exerting a lot of energy during the day - swimming, running around outside, riding bikes and it tires them out. My son just turned 12 and he is very active during the day in the summer.

Nope! Not too early and yes, sounds like puberty. My first two boys were like this. The extra sleep occurs when puberty starts and through out their teens. They'll level out in their 20s.

You won't know when your son truly is starting puberty. It's not like he's going to come running to you telling you he's had his first morning salute or his first nocturnal emission. I think he'd be mortified. My first though was obvious. He had an excess amount of night time stuff and had navy blue sheets so I knew when that started and that was at age 10. My second wasn't so obvious. Course, by then I had learned to have my boys pull their own sheets and put them in the washer, lol.

Boys and girls start "puberty" at different stages. Some earlier and some later. Just go with the signs. Be sure he gets to bed at a decent time compared to when he wakes up. He may need extra sleep. Our second son does. He's 16 now. If he doesn't get a minimum of 9 hours sleep for school he's a mess all day so we have to make sure he goes to bed at a certain time compared to when he wakes up. He had the sleepies worse than our first son.

Now, if someone could just walk me through having a hormonal daughter at age six who started using occasional deodorant at age 5 I'd be set! LOL

Probably completely normal but how is his diposition when he's awake? No alarm meant! May want to look for withdrawal, lack of interest, change in eating (of course growing boy = eat a lot!) change in friends, etc, etc. Otherwise, sounds normal: )

Here it comes!!!!!
My 10 year old is still up at 5:30 AM. Thank goodness for Lego Wii.

Get ready to start buying some longer jeans and bigger shoes, and smelly oooooo showers and aftershaves. Boys are just as emotional as girls. My oldest would blow up over nothing, but to him it was everything. He also cried at weird times too.

He is 22 and all is well. We are going through it with the girls who are 13 and 16.
