I saw on the news that h&r block messed up the education form. This is the first year that something needs to actually be checked instead of left blank. It caused over 500,000 delayed refunds.
Is anyone else's taking forever? We filed on Feb. 11th and still haven't received our return. H&R block said it would be between 8-21 days. We've talked to them and they said it has to do with an inconsistent software update. Ive also talked to the IRS multiple times . One time they told me that a form hadn't been signed so they'd mail it to me and that'd straighten it out. I called again because I never got the form and was told that they received the form it's just taking a really long time to process our education credit. I'm not sure they know what's going on. Is anyone having similar trouble?
I read the article J.B. linked, and I found it very helpful. We've talked to H&R block but they claim its not their fault
And won't be refunding anything. I'll call corporate now that I feel more confident in knowing what's going on. Thanks everyone!

We did our taxes on Feb 15th and are stuck in the same thing you are. So frustrating. I know you should never really count on the return as income but our son is getting married in 3 weeks and we did count it as part of the money we need for the wedding stuff. tuxes, rehearsal dinner etc. and yes ours is the same snafu with the education credit.
Sounds like an H&R Block issue. I filed on 3/12 via TurboTax and had my refund deposited 3/19 and I had an education credit. I would be hounding H&R Block about this. You should have had your refund a month ago. They should refund you whatever you paid them.
Here is an article - it is an H&R block issue - ask them to refund your filing fee:

I did ours Feb 7th, got my return direct deposited to my bank than 5 days later and I had the education credit as well.
odd that there are inconsistencies.
I hope you get your money soon!
We filed mid Feb and got our return in about 2 weeks. You can go to irs.gov and check on the status of your refund. You need the ssn of the primary filer and the exact amount of the refund.
You may be able to check the status on the IRS site:

We file else electronically and did direct deposit. We got it in about 8 days.
We use TaxAct online and had our return in 8 days.
We usually get ours within a couple of weeks, but one year we ran into something like this. We filed electronically, and we were given an estimated date. Well that date came and went and still no refund. I called the number, and they gave me a new estimated date. This second date was accurate. Can't remember the reason I was given for the new date.
I actually wonder if they don't randomly check some returns more thoroughly. It would be very costly to really check everyone's tax return every year. Are a small percent chosen each year? Were we one of the lucky few that year? I really don't know, but I do wonder.
It has been all over the news for weeks, they said six to eight weeks before you will receive a check.
